I have built my own for around $20 for about the last 5 years. Never had an issue yet, I try and get everything as square and centered as I can before I weld. I have heard you can put some ATF inside them that helps balance them but don't know for sure

All balancing is, is a selling point to make you feel good. The first bumper you run over, the first time you belly out and stress the yokes, that balance job is worthless. Guys balance their shafts to try to control whip, which is caused by excessive rotating mass. Their shafts weigh a ton. That's the problem. A few years back I bent my slider during a show. It had about 1/4" runout. But because my design weighs significantly less than most, I was able to continue using it for the rest of the show without grenading my trans. And I was turning that shaft upwards of 2000 rpm. Yes balancing is just a ploy means nothing......

I know balancing them is a good idea in the long run but if your running a stock class I wouldn't be too concerned. I will run my tri-ovals and square shaft sliders in my derby cars but my street legal mod car im working on will get a Nerat splined slider if nothing else just so I don't rattle my teeth out at 75mph with 4:11 gears.

The weight is the exact reason I went with the tri-oval design.
I never did like the idea of sliders because of all that damn weight flying around on your trans and rear.
Finally bought one when E2 came out with the tri-ovals.

The excessive weight combined with a small diameter tube is why some balance their shafts. As I said before, to help control whip. That, and it sounds good to the buyer. It is a band aid to the real problem of an overweight, small diameter shaft. Not a ploy, but not really useful either.
I have video of some of these balanced shafts whipping and self destructing like any other slider shaft.

04 vic with a imp sub, 1/4" plate top bottom and both sides fire wall forward, V-bumpers front and back, floater rearend, tipped, shortened, leafed, SBC w/open headers out the hood (bought some race car collector mufflers to go on top), no glass, doors welded shut, cage, halo, roof sign... Hidden headlights, turn signals, and a pickup led tail light bar on the back bumper. I want to drive a derby car to work when its not raining or snowing. I live in a big city and it drives me bat shoot crazy how dumb some people drive. Ever been sitting at a red light turned green and had to wait for the traffic to clear so you can go? I'm sick of waiting! You tell me if open headers and a beak flying at you wouldn't make you think twice about sneaking through a red light. There will be lots of pics and videos when its done. I've been building and collecting parts for this thing for 2 years. I'll drive it around for a summer or two and then drive it strait onto the track. Fix it and keep driving it to work.

Only thing I'm not happy about is for legality I have to run DOT tires. Cant wait to take a few girls on dates with a derby car. If she says I'm not riding in that thing, or she cant crawl in through the window, it wasn't meant to be.

Drop a couple nuts/bolts, chain, etc inside the next one. Sounds like the engine is going to blow up or something. Doesn't really hurt anything.
