I'm at a stalemate on which dist. to run a points or electronic Chrysler. All I have ever ran is points and never had problems untill my last derby 3 weeks ago and again tonight. At the derby I lost the condenser just befor my first heat and tonight I lost my points. I have both types of dist. So please help me choose which I should run this weekend. This is for a stock 318

I've never ran anything but points on my Chryslers. And the first one was in 1978. I did stop running the ceramic voltage reducer. They tend to break. I use a 10ga wire from the coil to the ign. Never lost a coil or condenser/points doing it that way. But others may like the electronic set up, and have a good way to do it. I've never tried one, because the pounts worked for me.

Always ran points (except on slant 6's) with no issues. Either one is probably as good as the other but if you have lost faith in your setup then make the switch... just stay away from the lean burn stuff.

lots of discussion already abounds for this subject if you look in the tips threads.
What did you mean by "lost" the points and condenser? I've never had one die abruptly without cause. I've burnt up condensers by welding on the car with the battery connected, and I've burned up points by leaving the ignition on when the engine was off. I've had points get flaky after sitting a long time and crud building up on them. On road cars I've had points wear out after several thousand miles. I've seen guys burn up those parts when not using a ballast resistor. Aside from all of that, I haven't had either fail without an explanation.

Not a Chevy thing, its just a keeping it simple and trouble free thing. Aren't you in the wrong section? Go Ford yourself...

We have ran points in the past with no problems.Lately we have been running mopar electronic distributors. It's personal preference on wich set up you use.On our street and performance applications we use MSD.

I have used HEI on my 360s for years. It is a night and day difference in performance. IMO its worth the $35 to get the bushing from Winslow. Then you can just set a Buick distributor in.

Drop a Skip White HEI distributor in it should be in the poll, IMO I had always ran points till this year and I ran a skip white distributor and absolutely loved it. Sounds strange but, I honestly feel like my motor had more go. Maybe I am wrong but I like points or HEI.

I am in no way claiming to know anything about Mopars. I was only saying that the poll should include the other option that is available. I have no preference because I have no experience running points or electronic. I am currently building my first Mopar and I bought a HEI distributor because it doesnt get any easier to install/setup than that.

Points ignition makes a WAY hotter spark. Especially for starting.
CarCraft Magazine did a shootout a few years back points vs gm hei vs msa ignition....
points actually made more horsepower.
not as reliable in the looooong run like todays cars but well set points will out preform everything else.
