Well if your using a harness how are you running them over a stock seat? Obviously the lowers go to the floor and the uppers bolt to the bar behind drivers seat but are you cutting seat and running them through the seat or just over it?

the perfect way to run them is to have them come through the seat 2 inches below the top of your shoulders. holds you back along with down. But most of the time you can easily get away with over the top of the seat. Beware they still stretch lots when you hit. seat moves, floor pan moves and seat bar moves weather you believe so or not it does. in this clip i had my shoulder belts tight and still pounded the wheel hard enough to turn it inside out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMM46Dp4tyw

I have only run one derby so I am no expert (can't wait for next season though). I had a lap/shoulder combo in my car and an old timer walked up and strongly suggested that I remove the shoulder portion. He said that if a bumper came thru and caught on my shoulder belt I would be in a world of hurt. It made sense to me so I complied. about 60 seconds into my very first heat the corner of a bumper came thru the drivers compartment and completely removed the "A" pillar. It didn't touch the "B" Pillar, but I certainly understood what he was talking about after that.

I leave the seat belt in and either use just the lap part or none at all. I like to be able to move and/or get out if something is on fire/rolls over.

I use the lap and shoulder belt out of a 72 chrysler new yorker leave the shoulder strap a little loose and have some padding on it. Ran the stock one in a GM once and never again I thought it was gona strangle me kept sucking tighter and tighter.

To stop the "strangle" from happening, adjust the belt to where you like it, and then put a spot of weld on the ratchet belt gears. Or a small pair of vise grips works also.

I also put a bolt through mine to the b pillar because it didn't lock well.. But I couldn't turn to my right, had to look behind my from the left. Probably a lap belt for me next time

^^I've just put a small bolt through the belt where I want it, so it won't go any further in. I used to just wear a lap belt, but found my back doesn't hurt as bad the next day if I wear the shoulder strap. X2

^^I think you misunderstood me, unless I misunderstood you...lol I just put a bolt through the belt itself, so it can't go in any further and tighten up; but it can still come out. same for me kinda. i just wrap duct tape around it though.

Yeah I have learned how to keep them from sucking in since then but I like that old chrysler on because if I want I can unhook the shoulder strap and just run the lap belt or I can hook up the shoulder belt. Having a hard time trying to figure out where to mount the shoulder strap on my current car a 76 electra.

I ran shoulder belt in 2007 worst mistake of my life went head to head with a built New Yorker with a Lincoln. Broke my collar bone and seperated my shoulder. Marbles got so knocked loose I didn't realize I broke my collar bone until I tried to climb out o the car.
