had several top post terminals come off when hitting hard... even after tightening them down... so I either use side post or top post with the 3/8 studs now... haven't had an issue since

gotcha. I prefer studs, with as many times as a derby battery gets connected and disconnected there is too much of a chance to get a lead or terminal screwed up with top or side posts.

Ive been lucky I guess. I have never ran into that issue yet. I have had the wire pull out of the end, and had the cheap lead terminals break in half where the cable bolts up. But never had them come off. As usual its always the little things that cause the biggest problems.

I had never had a cable come off a post till this last week dang thing popped right off. Turned out for the best anyway though I put the cable back on after the heat and was able to make it back in the consilation heat and made the championship because only 2 of us could get our cars going. Took 5th till my carburetor started coming apart and started on fire. SO 2 little things to remember tighten battery cables better and if you have your carburetor appart make sure you get the screws extra tight when going back together or put something on them to lock them.

Build your car and keep a clipboard handy with a list going on it. even the straight out un missable stuff like tires. as you finish stuff put a line thru it. and as your working on stuff little things will pop in your head...put them on the list. and finish what your working on.
There is no room for fail on little things. like gear oil in your diff

dont use jumper cables as battery cables generally there not thick enough then you'll just be ruining your jumper cables

Make sure your throttle stop is adjusted correctly. Oddly your throttle plate will bend in towards the carb if your pedal isnt stopping at WOT. Didnt twist the shaft or butterflies.

tighten important nuts and bolts, especially lug nuts

If running weld in centers, take a large drill bit or de-bur tool and chamfer the holes so that acorn style lugs nuts have something to seat into. And if using larger aftermarket coarse studs use a locknut on top of the lug nuts.
