I usually like to drink beer... Seems to help. The checklist idea is phenomenal; everything in this thread should be written down and put in your derby box because even though we've built umpteen cars, a guy ALWAYS forgets something

If your not running the good heat shink wire butt connectors or soldering them together make sure to wrap the snot out of them with electrical tape. I like to use the good heat shrink weather gaurd spade connectors for my radiator fan and fuel pump so it can go car to car easily but I wrap them with electrical tape anyhow. Also never ever ever ever use that little yellow accessory crimp connector that comes premaid battery cables, that one just took me out last month.

I use the house wire nuts for my wire and electrical tape works great so far. Deffinately as said before a hand throttle.

Don't forget the vice grip. You can do alot of quick fixing during the derby if you have a vice grip clamped to your cage or battery box.

I do the same thing.
How about grinding yokes and driveshafts for shows without sliders. It helps a bit

Grinding yokes and driveshafts??
I tape the crap out of my u-joints at the differential.
When I built with my uncles, they would write everything we needed on the hood in sharpie. We would make sure the whole checklist was completed and inspected 2x before we would paint the car....oddly enough, the only time something went really wrong was when we didn't paint the car...

My list never ends, eventually I just say good enough and it goes on the trailer. I've spent months on some cars and days on others but have never truly finished one.

In shows without sliders I grind all the inner part of the pivot points on the driveshaft.....In essence, making it so you can get more angle out of a stock driveshaft before they bind and break. I have noticed I can nose a car about 4 inches more than if I don't grind the pivot points. Grinding yokes and driveshafts?? I tape the crap out of my u-joints at the differential. I believe he is attempting to refer to clearancing the drive shaft yokes with a grinder and or dremmel tool to achieve increased articulation.

Don't fill your radiator all the way to the top, when it gets hot and starts coming out the overflow it can create a siphon and empty the whole radiator.
