Only bumper I leave the guards on is a pointy. I feel they help keep the point from twisting when they are only seam welded.

Ended up getting two rear bumpers at a local yard. 84ish Cadillac fleetwood and 88ish olds cuttless. The only steel backed bumpers they had. Hoping they would be ok for either front or rear of a 96 bubble caprice. Thanks for the input.

Thanks Luke. I'll put the caddy bumper on the rear.
What would be the best 80s bumper for the front? Stock show. (96 bubble caprice) Can't weld seams of stuff/load. Can only weld front bumper to brackets and frame.

^^^ Agreed 1980 Oldsmobile 88 front bumper steel backed and tough. mines still straight after 2 hard hitting stock derbies with nothing but welded to brackets to the frame. the sides a tad rough but from the light squares to the middle is straight

Are the 76 Pontiac lemans, similar in strength to the monte? The bumper I have looks identical and is fairly thick metal. I know they share the same general frame from the lemans, Grand Prix, and the monte. Are the bumpers all similar to?

Lemans bumper flattens and bends down. No, not even close to the monte.
