Don't the valves hit the head if you don't have the heads machined, which is why you would put the 360 heads on there. And the poor mans 340 is a better set up IMO than a stock 318.

holy cow.... are we really debating this again for the 100th time?
I also love it when people claim something "works better" based on their calibrated arse... the numbers are out there, they've been published many times over. You don't have to drive and and try to decide which is better, you can actually measure results with real numbers. The numbers don't lie. If the numbers contradict what your calibrated arse is telling you from the driver's seat then guess what... you've just fallen victim to the Placebo effect.
Do a few searches on this topic and you'll find it pops up several times on this site, and all over the internet on other enthusiast sites, and then you'll find a few references to actual experiments and noted magazine publications. Or we can have the same old debate once again right here for the fun of it.

Can I put 360 heads and intake on a fuel injected 1998 318? I've been doing some research on this and I think I'm gonna do it, I know the basics, I'm sure I'm capable of doing it, I've been playing around with motors for a few years. I can get the heads and intake off a 360 or nothing.

The oiling will be different. La's oils through bosses, magnums oil through pushrods. You would also have to swap distributors, camshafts, timing covers, if you wanted a mechanical fuel pump. IMO just get a magnum carb intake and either points or electronic distributor and electric fuel pump. You would lose all the benefits of having a magnum by swapping la heads on it.

And far as I know the heads are the same on magnums (318&360) so if your considering swapping the heads around (mag to mag) it would be a waste of time.

So I have a question? I have a industrial 360 and a stock 318. If I wanted to up my power output and torque would it be better to port and polish the 360 heads and get a valve joband put them on 318. Or more worth while to just use the 360 after the heads are cleant and ported?
