If I'm reading this right, you can wrap the straps around the support/radiator from top to bottom. Or I guess you can go from side to side. And I also use some of that foam tubing, I mentioned above, to protect the straps from metal edges.

I always just run the O part of the thermostat. Take the thermastat out, cut the spring and plunger piece out and put back in the washer piece. You always have flow but still slows down enough to cool.

Yeah take the middle out or run a washer with similar sized hole in it. You need some restriction in the flow.

Yup^^ NEVER just take the whole stat out- the water moves way too fast and doesn't stay in the rad long enough to cool down. I always cut a piece of sheetmetal the size of the stat and drill a 3/4" hole in the center to act as an "orifice plate", but just knocking the guts out is a quick alternative too, just not quite as effective

I tried no thermostat on a compact ran cool and I'd say I'm going to do it on a sbc. This has been on here multiple times and I'd have to agree with Joker with no thermostat period.

not to quote joker...but if you are running aftermarket corrugated hoses their is plenty of restriction in them. if you look in the cooling section he had discussed this part before.

The hole in a gutted stat is pretty big, thus allowing the water to move quickly through the system, not allowing it to spend enough time in the rad to cool down. Don't get me wrong- I've had success with knocking the guts out several times but when it comes down to it, more restriction= more cooling
