^ I had one that I ran multiple times in a 318 and never had an issue. If I were to do it again with another small block I'd probably just run points though, they're so simple and easy to fix if something goes wrong.

Through testing and research its been established that its all personal preference on which setup to use (hei, points, or electronic). The performance differences (if any) are minimal at best.

I loved it. It performed flawlessly so far. have you ever figured out where to get a replacement cap & rotor for these? I've struck out several times myself.

Has anyone had a problem with an HEI bein 45 degrees off? When I set the #1 to TDC and set the distributor in it is 45 off so it couldn't be fixed simply by flipping it 180 because then it would be 135 off... I'm stumped and have spent about a day thinkin about it and tryin to figure it out but I'm at a loss.

Did you replace the timing chain during this swap?

No I haven't taken the front of the motor apart. I'm just goin to time it with the plug wires on the cap and see if that'll work.

Do yourself a favor, and take the time to replace the timing chain and gears.

I'm a firm believer in the idea that a GM hei distributor makes a small block Mopar perform better than a points distributor will. I have two motors, built identical, with the same carbs on them and I can assure you the one with the GM hei runs smoother and jus overall performs better than the other. I've had great luck with points but I prefer hei.

Love the two I have, as for the big block I have never touched one but am currently looking into it. This is the one for the big block I am looking at- www.skipwhiteperformance.com/detail.aspx?Item=6714-R
