What are the bars coming out the back windows for? Back window bars? They function similar to front window bars. Keeps things from coming through the back window into the car. But also can be used to hold the trunk downwards longer and puts the stress of hits into the roof.

If I remember right from when I ran one of these they have back coil springs for the axle, you are going to want to chain those in.

Thanks demolitionmissions. You have been a great help. And your videos on youtube. Yea the bars come out the back window and over the hood. Im working on my gas tank now. Should i do the cage first or hook my gas tank in first. I wont put Ny gas in until all welding is done of course. Haha baBOOOM

And yes this car has coil springs all the way around. It doesnt say anything about not welding them so that and a light chain? Or one or the other. Im just worried about building it too hard and not being able to run. Id rather it be under built and just go have fun.

Preferably just a link to the rules, so they don't take up half a page.

If you are not sure about chaining the springs in, then use 9 wire in several places. As it can be hidden a lot easier.
I would do all cage first before gas tank. Then you have more room to move around inside the car when installing cage.

Any one have Abby tips on a 91 dodge spirit?? This is my first derby. Thanks guys Use the back as much as possible, front will start to plow down after a couple hits. Read this whole section for more tips. this may sound really dumb but had a friend do it on his fwd mopar. he notched the front frame to make it go up just a lil bit so it didnt plow the ground like they all do. car was pretty hard an never went down in nose. ill see if i can find pics of it.

Not dumb at all. I had several people tell me about this when I built my 91 New yorker. I even dimpled and prebent my frontend upwards but the sucker still plowed down. Maybe it needs an actual notch and a steeper prebend angle.

I think my game plan will be donuts on the back and notch the rear end and leave the front be. Will post before and afters of the 91 dodge spirit

Check out the videos on my 91 New Yorker. I loved how perfect it packed in the trunk. Maybe try notching yours in a similar spot. The rear frame on these is a lot stronger than I expected it to be and seemed to take more abuse than the usual compacts that fold right in.
