I run fusible links to the fan and alternator if applicable. Everything else is hard wired.

So, what would have inspired the previous owner to do this? Built up 2.3 Dura Spark ignition, with a Mallory coil. They wired a ballast resistor into it.....why??

It got lost in the shuffle during site changes. I had tried the diagram that was here and burned up 2 modules before ever even cranking the engine.....went out & found a dura spark.
Tried a tfi with factory wiring & the module fried about a minute after losing the radiator....temp probably wasn't even 260.
Not uncommon for mini stock guys to use it....if you know anyone.

here's a good une Ok this is the diagram I am goin off of but the wires I have coming off my distributor are colored different. The bottom of the plug is a black wire with a red tracer the wire above that is green with a yellow tracer and the wire above that is red with a green tracer. Will this work if I use the black wire with the black/red wire the yellow wire with the green/yellow wire and the purple wire with the red/green wire?

This can be the sticky for this topic. I'm sure it will fill up fast enough. Here's one of the Dura Spark pics I saved. So I take it the white wire in that 2 wire plug is the leftover I don't need ?

The white wire is a guessing game. With some you don't need it at all. With others, you need to tie it in with the red one, while with yet others, you need it instead of the red one.

Over the years, I've had a couple boxes that used the white instead of the red. Our current setup, needs white & red to be spliced.
