I just read on the net that the TFI could be used without the computer, by using the bottom 3 wires on the elect plug, black to ground, red to power source and the green to the neg side of coil.
I'm just stating what I read.
Any input on that? Is anybody ever tried it?
Thanks!

Positive side will connect to the positive side of your coil as well as your switched 12 volt. Never used the ground myself but it couldn't hurt.

The car is going to a medium weld show... Show I use Duraspark instead or the TFI could be OK? I know that there is a lot of variables but I just want your opinion.
Thanks!

ran my fairmont 3 times without any issues. Many ppl prefer duraspark but it screwed me once, never again. As always individual results may vary. If wired correctly, imho, tfi is just as reliable as duraspark without a box and only 3 wires period and no box. Just make sure to use the square type coil. Been told the round oil filled coils don't mix well with the tfi dizzys for some reason.

Ran tfi all this year with no issues. Set your timing where it runs good and starts hot. Easy to wire and no duraspark box to screw with. Also 4 shows I won this year were 20+car heats durability is pretty good.

I believe I have a tfi distributor. Is there an ignition box I should get to run along with it or just use the 3 wire setup.

I ditched my tfi distributor and Iam working on buying all the duraspark parts. Is there a coil to stay away from on these or is it just the points style dist. That you need to worry about.thanks

I couldn't find an old post where a guy was putting a duraspark dist. In place of a tfi dist. And on the newer style dist. Its machined down about an inch up from the bottom of the shaft. And the older style is not. Do you have to change the two shafts out or just sand it down or two it in with a mallet?

I tried putting a dura spark in a motor that had tfi originally, ran for about a minute and twisted the pin off in the gear. Then I wired up the tfi and never had problem again. If you wire them correctly and use the stock type tfi coil your good.

I had originally planned on trying the tfi but I couldn't ever get much figured out on the wiring and the dist. I had was broke and about half falling apart. Seems like where the shaft that goes over the oil pump shaft is what is holding me up.
