Any one with a light weld or stocker build that's willing to answer a few question through PM's.

I'm thinking about running a 03 and newer in our 80s class. It is supposed to be a stock build but in reality it is pretty much a limited weld derby. You have to keep the stock front steering parts but with that being said these 03 and newer seem to dominate. They are full tracking pretty much all night and are not bending. Are these that strong even stock? Also the one I found is a 06 with steel lowers, will this help any more to keep the front tires on? I'm not sure what else to do with the suspension in stock form. Most things I see on this thread just talk about replacing it all with the older stuff.

I have been going throw the thread and making list and prices of what its going to cost if you want.

Spend the money on all good front end parts, yes they are hard and fun but front wheels do what they want we don't have then dialed 100% but I'd say 85-90% mini imps

At one of our local shows two well known builders broke the aluminum cradles in half in both cars in light weld. Hopefully get to see some others run tomorrow at clean up show.

But we are allowed 4 down bars, hard nose bumpers, etc. Basically a build like I did on my 94. This one I am looking at is a 06 and I guess has both steel uppers and lowers.

Im sure the rules you run allow oem parts can swap or the guys wouldn't get in with 80s parts on the 98 to 02 fords there. Rears need watts conversion kits. You can run factory upper a arm or swap out with better. And NLR has the ball joint to swap. The tie rods will have to be modified from 80s vic to the rack. But the frames will bend just like all but yes everyone sees the 03 ups going nose out all night and don't move but just like every car it will take time to figure out. Here's some pics I have saved to use as I build from some builders on here.

The thing about figuring them out is with this class there should be nothing to figure out. The frames are supposed to be 100% stock. You are allowed a 12 inch bumper shock which I don't think really matters on these cars. The one I am looking at is a 06 which I guess has the steel upper and lower a arms. I am allowed to watts convert them or whatever. The spindle I can swap out to a older style.

In my years of building I've learned even if its a bone stock wire class people still cheat or get creative. They like the newer cars so they so body bolts are still good and they can pull frames out and put them back in with no broken bolts.

Uhhh you’re going to want that 12 inch bumper shock… I'm going to use it every time because it is allowed but I see a lot of guys who don't and it doesn't seem to make as much of a difference since the frame horns are so much larger, but then again I'm new to these cars.

Length has nothing to do with it. there are crush holes there... Aslo there is no lower part the radiator mount/core support so remeber that and a 02 and down are wider so you need to cut and overlap or some other creative thing. I have seen many ways that work. 06 should'nt have the steel arms unless something unique. 09+ are the best years and most likely to have steel lowers. good luck on build.

1/4" 4x4 angle iron works well for "radiator" mounting rail to rail
