Late 60's & early 70's trucks/vans specifically with a 727 style output shaft. The bellhousing I've been running for 4 years now is from a late 60's truck, very thick and very heavy cast iron with the slave cyl & fork mounted on the passenger side. Stock 10.5" napa clutch and push type slave cyl from an IH 60's era pickup. I run 3:55 gears with mine and have all the pushing power I could ask for, but I also run smaller diameter 14's on the rear.

Is the yoke the same in 904's as the 727's? Have a 318 and 904 but no yoke for the driveshaft. I'm making a parts run to a u pull it and would like to know, will dodge ram trucks from the late 90's work?

If it has the inspection plate on top throw it away, those are junk. If its a 3 ring 3 spd, I wouldn't recommend anything over a 4.10 gear either especially if you have a built engine.

Does a torque converter from a sbm 904 swap out with a torque converter from a sbm 727? Might be a stupid question

Can a 904 and a 727 torque converter be switched between the two if they are both from a sbm?

either torque converter can be used on the same engine but the transmission input shaft is what is different between 727 and 900 series

I have a big block trans that I got out of a 72 motor home. Can anyone tell if there is any difference between it and a big block 727 out of a car. I know the tail shaft is shorter and the bolt on yoke. Would like to know if there is any internal difference or converter. Basically will it work behind my 440 without changing anything.

What was it bolted to? If it will bolt up, there should be no reason why it wouldn't work.

It was behind a 440 as well in the motor home. I was told the internal cuts where stronger then regular car 727. I know guys use them for drag cars. Just didn't know if I would have to change the converter.

Just didn't know if I would have to change the converter. Wouldn't think so as long as it would bolt up. Dunno though for sure. Like I said for sure, there shouldn't be any reason why not.

440's could be internally or externally balanced which the latter requires a weight on the torque converter

The 440 I'm wanting to put the motor home tranny behind is out of a 76 new Yorker (if this makes a difference whether it's externally or internally balanced). Also I checked out the converter on the motor home trans and it has no weights on it and I also checked the car trans that was behind the 76 440 and it has weights on the converter ( I'm guessing this meens the 76 440 is externally balanced) Does this meen a simple converter swap and I should be good? Also is there any difference between the valve body?
Thanks for all the input guys. Iv been using your guys input for a few years now for my builds. Just have never had to post anything ( always a first for everything ). Just need to read and you guys always have my questions answered.
Thanks again

If the trans. out of the car was shot I would not use that convertor in a good trans. all the debris in the convertor will go right in to your (new) trans. I have used the flexplate as a template and cut the weights off one convertor and welded to another. I couldnt tell the diff. I used that trans and motor combo for a long time.
just my 2 cents

Both trans are good. I just like the idea of the bolt on yoke. Easier then having to drill a hole in the output shaft for a slider driveshaft. So do you think i can just swap converters? Or is better to start welding the weight on to the motor home trans. Thanks guys
