Anyone ever trimmed/ ground down the a arm so it comes in contact less with the wheels when they bend? Doesn't take a wheel to bend much before it contacts the end of the control arm.

What happened to the shocks that came on the car? I haven't had a issue with the weak steering components.

P.S. this is my first caddy I cut off around 4" in front of the frame and shorten some stock GM shocks. Stuff them in the frame and welded everything up. Worked great. I also cut the stock caddie mounting plates in half and bolted and welded them to the outside of the frame. Used the hell out of the front in two derbies and it did not bend. I had no problem with the steering, I just welded a u-joint in on the bottom of the steering Column.

im assuming thats a chevy core support in that white caddy?.... we hardnosed our 73 coupe... it bent directly where the weld stopped on the "core support bracket".. yes we altered it... but it was welded damn near exactly as pictured with the factory core support mount welded to it... still tryin to figure out how... only hardnosed... no bumper shock at all

Yup, I ran the caddie core support in the first derby and it folded up. Just about the only major problem I had to fix plus the rad. I got a core support out of a mid 70's Nova and weld the outer upper part of the caddie core support to it and worked well. Photo after the first derby.

Cut the shock mount from the front bracket. Throw the shock in the trash, weld the bracet back in place where it goes and hardnose it. I usually get 22 to 23 inches at the bottom of the bumper like this and it work perfect. It also takes the leverage off the top of the frame. You do it like this and you WONT be dissapointed. Check out my pics in my photobucet lilnk at the bottom of my post. The cream colored and the red cad are the same car just different runs. U can see how i do them there is a close up of the bumper mount when it was still cream colored. Kenny
