Ok, i have a 76 pontiac. It has the 10bolt cover 12 bolt ring rear under it. Can i put a 10 bolt carrier in it and use 10 bolt gears? Will the pinion fit right? What do i have to modify to make it work? It has 2.56's i welded the spiders and this thing is a DOG. I know a few pages back you can change it out for a truck carrier but what one? Thanks in advance guys. Will not work. Carrier is smaller on the 8.5 and the pinion bearings are way different. Only thing that 10/12 is good for is side gears to make a 31 spline BIA out of a stock 8.5 carrier. The housings are even junk...I have seen several crack and break right around the pinion bearings...too big of bearing bore in too small of a case.

I have a 75ish Buick wagon 12 bolt rearend with a bent axle tube. Is that something I can repair? If so, how do I go about it? Its not a bad bend, I can stick the axle almost all the way in the tube, but thats it. My mechanic says its because the tube is bent. Any solutions are appreciated. Thanks.

alright, i went to go pick up a rear-end the other day. It was supposed to be a 14 bolt full floater. From the outside it looks like it is, it has the outside hubs, but when looking at the pumpkin it has a rear cover like a 14 bolt but only has 10 bolts in it, and the front carrier is also removable. I haven't had a chance to count the number of bolts on the front carrier. It came out of a mid 70's truck. Does anybody have an idea of what it really is?

Is a 10 bolt out of a Chevelle any good? Add says 10 bolt open with 2.73s. $50 or am I wasting my time?

has anyone ever used moser or strange engerneering c- clip eliminator kits on a 10 bolt? for 160 I figured they could help out and would be easier and cheaper than finding a bia axel and spare shafts or building or buying a hybrid axel. mabey not as strong but more bang for your buck?

Yes you can as long as your coil housing has the same ends as your wagon housing.

But would you have to re-shim the gears be cause the housing mayb off a little i'm not 100% sure but isn't that why we have to shim them in the first place.....due to casting differences.......just a thought otherwise everything should be the same as long as the end of the tubes are the same on both like he said.......

^^^That could be true. Id almost bet you'd have to shim it differently.
What I would do, for a quick change set-up and not re-buy everything, buy a separate spool and gear set for the leaf housing then just swap your axles back and forth. The axles are the expensive part anyways.
Even cheaper, easier route, get the coil/leaf brackets from Raptorfab

Dave at Raptorfab makes them. Google Raptorfab and he has his own site. The site doesn't have any of his new stuff on it but it has his email. He replies rather well to email
