Not the same.[/quoite] What would i need to make it work Well they are different spline as well as different sized. You can't make that set up work. That's why most guys use 12 bolt axles in a 10 bolt rear or move up to 33s. No aftermarket gears are available for the "derby" 12 bolts. I think some of this is covered in this thread.

Got a question on the 14 bolts. When putting on a driveline brake will a escort rotor stick farther down then the 3rd member? If so wouldn't be worth the time to shave the 3rd member housing an gears for clearance.

Am I wasting my time building a 10 bolt c clip rear end for a 96 Vic ? Would I be ahead of the game/ cheaper starting with something else?

If we are talking stock. I would rather run a stock geared 12 bolt BIA out of a 71-76 Gm than any 28 spline rear. Especially a c clipper. However to answer your question. You could buy a spool, axles, housing ends, gears, and a brace and make your rearend good. It all depends on what you are allowed to run and how much you want to spend.

Would I be ahead of the game/ cheaper starting with something else? it's not a "bad" rearend but not the strongest... pending what it's out of, I mean I rather the older 10 bolts than newer myself many of 28 spline 10 bolts have been ran with no issues... good base starter rear and you can get gears for it although I wouldn't go crazy with gears on 28 spline axles. an upgrade from that would be to get a 12 bolt c-clip and make a quick easy hybrid, you'd have 31 spline axles and availability of gears, can be done for about $300 after that it's all what you want to spend as Stromi stated.

thank for the reply's first big car build just trying to be competitive and not lose an axle first time out while keeping the budget down..

Never weld the axles. Weld the side gears to spiders and side gears to carrier.

While 8.8 axles aren't great, they are roughly equivalent to the 28 spline c clip GM axles. Swapping them out is work for no benefit in my opinion. In a stock class, 8.8 wouldn't worry me.

Anybody ever put any money into 7.5 10 bolts? Wonder if a 31 spline explorer axle will fit. I believe the length is less than 1/2" difference just not sure on the bearings to use obviously have to swap spider gears
