1969 Oldsmobile 98, frame any good? I heard a rumor one time that some 69s are good and some are garbage, like I said just a rumor. Was told that some ended up with good frames and some didn't. Could u post pics? Someone please tell me if the guy was smoking something that told me or is he on to something?

Some pre 70s had fully boxed frames up front. I am not familiar which ones. Im pretty sure they still had c channel rear frames but don't quote me on that.

It is boxed frame firewall forward and frame doesn't dip down in front of A arms.

There are certain Oldsmobiles from 58-64 that were full boxed perimeter frames with an x frame also and 9 leafs from the factory. They are either perimeter or x frame depending on the model and the ones with the bigger motors have both. The fronts are really similar to the old Ford frames from 58-64. i would run a 58-60 olds all day long and there are also ponchos from 70 down to 58 that are full boxed frames in front to the same place the 71-73s go to c channel in the back but the ponchos won't have leafs ever. Late 50s Oldsmobiles are the cream of the pre 71 gm crop followed by full framed 64 and up olds and pontiacs till 71 but the biggest problem with the latter two are the crush box design of the rear half of the frame that does exactly what vics do at the firewall with the same design in the rear when it humps over the axle and the ass ends are too tough everywhere else so the humps blow out bad. But a well hung stack of leafs would make that rear crush box design extremely strong and very resistant to bellying because of the angles of the rear frame

So i have a 70 electra stripped put and in as good of shape as youll find any car honestly, and an opportunity to get a 72 buick centurion for 200 bucks that has a totaled out body and clean frame, does anybody know if i could put the 72 frame under the 70 body without major modifications? Both are 4 door cars so i would hope wheel bases and frame widths are close to the same.

According to my Google machine, your '70 has a 127 inch WB, and the Centurion/LeSabre is 124, so there's that.

I got a 70 olds 98 convertible I'm gonna give a try. Looking at the front frame I can't see how it can't be stout. The bend at the firewall doesn't look worse than any other GM I've seen and it's a full box frame up front, but I totally respect and understand many people have traveled this road before me with poor results. I'm gonna do some welding as well as a tube bumper, shorten the trunk sheetmetal to avoid the c channel rear, full cradle and trans protector, hump plates, and a roof then Im gonna send it. Will see how it goes.
