I got a 2006 Buick LaCrosse to run in a demolition derby. When I bought it, it had the “reduced engine power” warning and hesitated while pressing the throttle however, it could still be driven and idled fine. After having the battery disconnected to remove airbags I tried to start it to make sure I didn’t put the car in security mode. It starts and idles but there’s no change in RPM when I apply pressure on the pedal; it’s almost as if it’s not even opening the gate on the throttle body. Also, after running for a few minutes it starts to drop RPM and becomes much more rough, sounding like it’s going to stall and starts to smell of gas. Any ideas what could be going on?

Did you try and clean the mass air flow sensor?

Did you try and clean the mass air flow sensor? Also spray carb clean around the intake, 3800s are notorious for intake leaks.
