This is the first year since 2009 that I have not ran at least one derby. I had big plans for the year, but got hit with a divorce in late March. I sold everything but one car and a handful of parts. I was kind of relieved when I sold it all. I guess that I thought it would bring my marriage back to life, and it didn't. Now that I am pretty much over coping with the cards I was dealt, I am ready to start building again. I doubt I start until this winter though. I have a lot of things to replace.

Sorry to hear about the divorce, that's always a tough hand to be dealt and go through.

I know the feeling. Half track driver's door hit broke ribs on a bone stock show. Floating cage had to be minimum height off floor with no down bars, etc. Definitely lost motivation so started selling off stockpile of cars/parts. I'll save one or two just in case I decide I get the urge again. Definitely will be more selective about which shows I go to. Too many promoters pushing big hits but not emphasizing safety.

The burn out feeling hit me after building back to back weekends in 2 different fresh light weld cars and one set up. It was tough and I made both shows and was pleased with how I placed. But then I was then at the feeling of I don't care to build. Stepped back and only built one and focused on it. And since I've been only building one a year. My nephew is starting to run so this past year I built him a gut n go and ran my preran once with nothing but carb issues. I had a fresh carb for it but thought the one on engine did fine till day of show. That then had me on edge of selling it all. So this coming year I'm stepping down to even less of a build and sounds like we got 3 simple stock builds coming out of our shop for possibly my last year of running.
We stepped back and been traveling way more then spending time in the shop.

I burnt myself out in 2019. Ran once in 2020, once in 2021 and once in 2022. The last two runs were spur of the moment in my cousin’s car. Won 6 of the last 7 shows with 3 mad dogs as well. Figure it’s as good of a time to quit as ever.
Kids are only little once.

I don’t know about burnt out on derby I feel as it is other things have taken priority over it, and it’s not fun to go from moderately successful to not. I had to scale back to one a year when we purchased a house with out buildings that needed a ton of work, and then when my son was born, it got really hard to be in the garage when he is growing up in the house. I still build one a year, because if I quit, I know I won’t restart. Too expensive to buy back in when you are only interested in full size rwd.
