Having trouble with placement of SBC crate motor in 1975 Olds delta 88. Motor sits super low in frame and pulley hit sway bar. Mounts are out of 70's truck from junkyard. Are there a different set of mounts I can get? Can't use a lower cradle either.

Get rid of the sway bar if you cant run a pully protector, you are just asking for it to get in the way. You can cut some plate and stack it under the motor mounts to raise the engine up.

cut it out and look at steering arm too. try and place it in a spot that will do the least damage to pan/pulley/HB area. That will be the next thing to rub...

I mounted one in a 76 88 last year, and I didn't need spacers or anything, just used stock truck mounts. Do you have an over sized crank pulley? In a stock class though, I would remove the sway bar if it caused any kind of interference. Definitely pay attention to steering arm rub on the pan though as cheezwhiz31 mentions. My brother ran my Catalina to finish it off and the steering arm wore a hole in the pan.

Everyone builds differently. I heat and bend the drag link and sway bar out of harms way. I cut that tab off the front of the engine crossmember, and I dimple the frame where the steering shaft will eventually hit the frame. It really depends on build style and your rules. But removing the sway bar completely is definitely the easiest and safest thing to do. And many people give advice based on the if you have to ask concept. Good luck with your build. Here is the link to the car you are building. Plenty of useful information available in there. And feel free to ask more questions should they arise during your build. www.we-crash.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gm&action=display&thread=14474

Thanks for the replies. Gonna drink some beer and look it over. Probably repeat this process a few times.

I think I raised my motor mounts up 1.5" off the frame. Worked out well.

The engine side clamshell mounts came in two different heights, shorter for cars and taller for trucks. I think the difference was an inch or less. Also, if your frame side mounts are old and the rubber is loose then they will sag down a little farther, replace them with new lower mounts if possible. Next step would be if you can space your lower mounts up off the frame using plate.
In our experience, engines sit much lower in an old iron frame than they do in a vic frame, which means everything is more likely to get into the oil pan/power steering pulley/fuel pump/crank pulley including the steering box, drag link, sway bar, and the engine crossover itself.
