Trying to decide which would be the better route to go. 98-02 vic with all stock watts rearend or 79-97 vic with all stock 8.8 rearend. Poll is supposed to say 79-97.

Don't some of the 07 newer vics have 31 spline watts link rears? Im guessing you could put ford explorer 410 gears and have a cheap stock 31 spline rear with gears. Just what Ive heard. I have no idea personally. Are you allowed to reinforce stock trailing arms?

"how stock" are we talking? watts will take a lot more abuse than you would think..
-by how stock, is it like a windshield/wire class with stock drivetrain?

97 down rear upper control arms (training arms)suck. I have ripped a couple in half. GM arms are a direct replacement. But that was running a gm 12 bolt. So the 8.8 axles might snap before the trailing arms do. IDK Ive never ran watts. In stock form the front frame rails are better on rhe 98-02 but the humps suck. In bone stock form Id probably take a box ford with gussets. But your rules make a big difference in choice.

A metric GM wagon, caddy, and a few other metric GMs do pretty decent against stock untilted Fords. Especially against a stock Ford 8.8 rearends. Some of the metric GMs came with BIA rears. Do you know which ones? The inspectors likely don't either. Its just personal preference, but I personally hate stock Ford 8.8 rears. I have a field full of metric Fords. But with the stock rearend rule, Id run a metric GM any day. But you will get many different opinions on this subject.

Gm wagons aren't c channel. I'd run a Gm over a Ford in stock.

Definitely go metric gm (caddy, olds, Buick) and throw a bia rear end under there. Unless inspectors know exact measurements of 70’s bia rearend and 80’s bia rear ends they wouldn’t be able to tell.

225s, 98s, and some Ponchos are fully boxed. But anyway I've never had a problem with the middle of a C channel GM dropping out in a stock show. Without tilting Id take an old iron GM of any kind against a fomoco.

I could go either way. I have a thing for box vics, but either choice is fine to me.
