Opinions on '76 Catalina bumper. I've heard they bend up.

I don't like them because the mounting surface is so small. But hard nosed with some help they might not be too bad. I have always ran them on the rear of many cars. Personally I have never put one on the front of anything so I have nothing useful to offer. They have always gotten mixed reviews. Some people like them and some people hate them.

stuff a piece of square tube in them after you cut all the other stuff off. This was on a 03^ worked. I agree on the skinny mounting surface but i wanted that cause i couldn't get rid of the crush holes on the 03 but I could hardnose so i wrapped the frame around the bumper since it was skinnier then the frame and got back far enough to eliminate 1 set of crush holes...

I have one that I've run on two 03 ^ vics. It has 3/8ths 4×4 box inside with angle welded on for the point. It has holes poked through the skin but still is straight

They’re a relatively heavy bumper so you know they have some meat in them, but will twist a lot like a 76 Buick front if left in stock form and bolted to the shocks.... They have a pretty decent little point on them, so IMO, like others have already said- they’re a good bumper (and easy) to load and then hardnose...

Good bumper. My brother never had the issue with them bending up, but he hardnosed.

I ran a 73 Poncho once, which I've been told also have the desire to bend down like a smiley face.
I used 80s ford shocks and put the longest part of the bumper mounting plate towards the top, then heated it, bent it down and welded it on the top side of the bumper.
Must have done something because it didn't go either direction but eventually flattened out.
Just my experience.
