Vehicle Preparation weld class
1. All glass, all carpet, and back sets must be removed. On station wagons, all decking must be removed and swept clean.
2. All chrome molding, head lights, tail lights, hub caps, side mirrors must be removed.
3. You are allowed to remove any thing; only thing allowed to add is what is listed in these rules.
4. Any American made hard top car or station wagon allowed. Chrysler Imperials and Sui Lincoln allowed. 03 and new are allowed. No Rancheros or El Camino allowed.
5. On Pre Ran cars you are allowed 2- 4x6x1/4 patch plates per frame rail. But must be able to see where frame was bent.
6. Pre ran cars are allowed to install new clips, and restub. When restubbing can only butt weld the new stub on. Do not plate around cut area.
7. On 03 and newer you are allowed to change cradles, the cradle must be bolt in only. No welding in cradles.
8. When changing steering you are only allowed to bolt steering box on. No welding crush points. No welding factory holes.
9. Gas Tanks must be removed and relocated to back seat area. Metal boat tanks are recommended. All lines and fittings must meet official’s approval.
10. Batteries must be moved to inside of car. Must be mounted solid and covered.
11. Radiators if used must be mounted in stock position. No reserved tanks allowed.
12. Aluminum radiators are allowed.
13. Trans and oil coolers are allowed. All fittings must be leak proof and meet officials approval.
Motors, transmissions and rear ends
1. Any motor in any car is allowed.
2. Motor cradles are allowed.
3. Any transmission is allowed.
4. Tran’s braces are allowed.
5. Cross members can be welded or bolted in. You are allowed to use channel, angle, or square tubbing for cross members.
6. Any rear-ends are allowed.
7. No converting coil spring cars to leaf spring or vice versa.
8. Braced rear-ends are allowed.
9. Pinion brakes are allowed.
10. Slider drive shafts are allowed.
11. If running a distributor protector fire wall must cut out so distributor protector fits though without touching anything. Distributor protector must not come in contact with dash bar either at any time. Before, during or after the derby or you will be disqualified.
Frames, Bumpers and Body’s
You are allowed to tilt frames. When tilting you are allowed to cold bend or cut if cutting only weld cut spot. One pass only. Do not plate.
1. Stuffing, plating, welding, or homemade bumpers are allowed. Bumper points cannot be bigger than a Chrysler New Yorker pointy.
2. You can weld a piece of pipe or tubbing to the side of the frame to mount bumpers. Tubbing or pipe cannot be longer then stock bumper mounts.
3. You are allowed to cut front frame rails at radiator support to mount bumper. Do not move radiator support back. Must be in stock location.
4. You are allowed to change all body mounts, you can replace no larger the 3/4in bolts. 6in plates can be used as washers. Do not weld plates to frame or floor pan.
5. Doors must be welded, chained or wired shut.
6. Body creasing is allowed. Do not fold creases over and weld or double body seams. You will have to cut.
7. You are allowed 30 total bolts, to bolt together fenders, no larger than 3/8in.
8. 6 points cage inside of cars is allowed. 1 bar across dash. One bar behind driver’s seat. One bar back seat area. Full door bar from dash bar to back seat bar.
9. 4 down tubes are allowed. Do no weld to frame. Do not weld to body bolts or plates. You are allowed to weld to floor pan only.
10. Halo bar is allowed, but must be welded to floor pan or cage. If welded to floor pan that counts as two down tubes. You are allowed to bolt halo to top of car. It is recommended.
Hood and Trunk
1. Hoods must have 2 holes and at least 4in in diameter on each side of the carburetor not directly on top. If hood is removed the fan or fan belt must be removed.
2. Hoods may be secured by 2 pieces of all thread no larger than 3/4. Out board the radiator through the frame rail.
3. Hoods may be held shut with one of the following but not both.
A. 8 2in pieces of 2x2 angle with a single 3/8 bolt through them.
B. 8 pieces of #9 wire attaching hood to fender.
4. You are allowed unlimited #9wire across the front in front of radiator.
5. You may use 4 pieces of all thread no larger than ¾ in to secure the trunk lid.
All thread must go through factory rear body mounts. Washer’s maybe no larger 6in in diameter.
6. Trunks can be held shut with one of the following but not both.
A. 8 spots 2 in long pieces of 2x2 angle with a single 3/8 bolt through them
B. 8 pieces of #9 wire attaching trunk to quarters.
C. You are allowed to weld trunk lid down. When welding weld 6 on and 6 off and
so on.
7. The trunk lid must remain on hinges
8. The trunk lid maybe V in center but quarter panels must remain standing. This is to gain vision not building a truck.
Tires
1. Any tire 16.5 or smaller allowed.
2. Skid steer, cut, lugged, fork lift tires are allowed.
3. Valve steam protectors are allowed
4. Bead locks are allowed.
5. No split ream wheels allowed.
MIS.
1. Homemade steering columns, gas peddles, break peddles, clutch peddles, shifters, are allowed.
2. Homemade tie rods are allowed, but must have stock appearing ends.
3. Chaining or welding A arms are allowed.
4. Cars must have chain, wire, or strap of metal running from fire wall to top of car in one place to keep the hood out of driver’s compartment.
5. You are allowed 4 pieces of #9 wire in hood, 4 pieces inside of car and 4 pieces in trunk.
6. You are allowed a center bar from dash bar to mid bar for shifter to mount on. Do not run chain, wire, or strap from mid bar to transmission. Or you will cut.
Mini Car Rules
1. Mini cars will follow Full Size Weld Rules.
2. Mini cars MUST HAVE ATLEAST ONE BAR BEHIND DRIVES SEAT.
3. Mini cars are allowed to leave fire all in tacked.
4. NO RIDERS IN MINI CLASS!
Chain and Wire rules
1. Any 1970 or newer American made hardtop cars or station wagon are allowed. No Chrysler Imperials or Rancheros or El Camino.
2. Gas tanks must be moved inside back seat area. Metal boat tanks are recommended. Tanks must be strapped down tight.
3. Batteries must be moved inside of care and strapped down tight.
4. You are allowed 2 pieces of all thread no larger than 3/4in o/d through frame rail to top of hood. Plus 4 other spots of 9 wire or chain in hoods. Trunks you are allowed 6 pieces of chain or wire to secure. You are allowed to tuck back half of trunk lid.
5. You are allowed to weld a steel bumper on flush to frame. You are allowed to crush bumper shocks and weld around them. You are allowed to weld bumper brackets onto frame. No more than one pass of weld. No larger than stock bumper mounts. You are allowed a short piece of chain from bumper mount to bumper. Must be OEM bumper can be welded or loaded. No homemade.
6. You are allowed a 4-point cage inside of car. Cage cannot be more then 12in behind driver’s door post. You are allowed a gas tank protector but can be no larger than the gas tank.
7. Doors must be held shut with wire or chain only. Do not weld them shut.
8. No pre bending allowed.
9. After market steering columns are allowed. You are allowed after-market gas and brake pedals.
10. No after-market suspension parts. All must remain stock. You are allowed 2 spring spacers per spring to level sagging cars.
11. Must use OEM 5 lug rear-ends. You are allowed to weld spider gears to make rear-ends posi-track. NO FULLY BRACED REAR-ENDS ALLOWED.
12. After market lower motor mounts are allowed. Mounts can be no larger then oem mounts.
13. Transmission coolers are allowed.
14. Motor cradles are allowed. Sway bar must be cut off pp are allowed. No DP. No trans braces. No steal bells. No steal tails will be allowed,
15. All body bolt mounts must remain stock. NO EXCEPTIONS.
16. Aluminum radiators are allowed.
17. Any 16.5 or smaller tires are allowed. No full weld in wheel centers allowed. Or bead locks will be allowed. No split rims
18. You are allowed a single piece of chain from frame rail to frame rail on rear of car.
19. NO PATCH PLATES ALLOWD. NO WELDING ON FRAME OTHER THAN BUPPER AND MOTOR MOUNTS. DON’T EVEN ASK.
20. Slider drive shafts are allowed.
