Ok I've been pondering what would be the better idea...I'm allowed to make my own shock out of 2*2 *1/4" as long as a stock shock...my question is would it be better to put it inside the frame or put it on the outside...I can't make up my mind what I want to do..all opinions are welcome

I would put the shock on the top of the frame, then weld a 1/2 inch plate to the shock and the end of the frame. Then you can weld the bumper to the plate and get a little extra height, I think you would be able to weld on it more also.

What type of car? You said the homemade shock can be the same lenght as the bumper shock...... do you have to go off the bumper shock the car came with or any bumper shock? Also what about going off the lenght of brackets or does it have to be shocks?

Good point forgot to say the car it's going on is an 89 Ford wagon...and I believe it has to be the length of the factory shock it came with and if I measured correct I believe it's about a foot long? Could be wrong

I would put shock top side of the frame, and plate the side where u can cover the most holes

When I'm allowed home made shocks, I'll run it threw the frame, and cut a hole on the outside so I can run it in completely straight and weld around it to the outside of the frame
Make sense? Lol
Then I'd put the straps on top

^^^^ I'd say that would be your best bet. You might be able to base your shock setup off of the box town car bumper shocks and get away with it. They are a little longer than the vic/merc ones.
