dose anyone know how to tighten up the steering on a 69 dodge 1/2 ton truck?

Which parts have the slack in them ? If its the steering box you can tighten it up by the adjuster nut on top. Just turn it a little at the time,tighten it back up and check. If its a tie-rod, pitman arm or drag link, you may need to replace. If you need more info, try to determine which parts have the slack. Have someone move steering wheel back & forth and you look at the components to see where the movement is.

when I go to back up the wheels want to slap back and forth and rip the steering wheel out of my hands.

Check to see if any of the components have slack in them. If no slack, may need to check the toe-in?
