So I have been at this sport for a while now but still can't figure out how you guys can have cars that belly so bad and not break the trans in two. Can you post some pictures of how you mount your motor and trans to help combat this? I am running more of a stock show in July and would like to expand my knowledge. Usually use a heavy duty trans protector but this show won't allow them or DP's or full engine cradles or mid plates. A lot of money on the line so any advice is greatly appreciated.

I always run the $30 chineese neoprene transmission mount from the local parts store. It will bend and stretch allot but still hold on.

MOP derby sells a rubber trans mount that i had good luck with. I usually egg out the hole pretty good where sits into then I put a lock nut and large washer on loose just so it cant pop off cossmember and ratchet strap around trans an xmember

What kind of car? What kind of tranny? What cross members using. Body/tunnel fighting the trans bell? Solid mounts or rubber insert? Driving style sometimes has an effect on it. Have a buddy that breaks alot of bells with his foot!! Rails bending independently will wreak alot of bells too... Or front rails shifting side to side. this is stock mounts on engine upper and lower. Stock x-member and not after market tranny parts. 400 turbo long tail.

I run a 2x2 square tube crosa member and usually just a chain around the trans and cross member but not to tight. Wondered if i need to maybe move my motor more forward or cut a slit down my floorboards. Thanks for the responses guys

motor and trans as far back as possible is your problem.... When a stock trans becomes a kicker bad things happen.

Cut a line through the trans tunnel. It won't break from the floor after that.

A buddy of mine has never ran a trans crossmember. He welds a nice plate inside the car at the taIL stock of the trans, then takes a long u-bolt and bolts the trans to the plate up through the floor. He has never broken a trans, and has had the front plenty high enough. I just don't have the balls to try it yet.

Chain tranny instead of mounting it to cross member

SIMPLE. DO NOT TRY AND USE THE ENGINE AND TRANS AS A STRUCTURAL MEMBER OF THE FRAME.. IVE RUN FOR 35 YEARS, SNOOTED MANY CARS TO THE MOON. NOT ONE BROKEN OR CRACKED CASE. I USE STOCK UPPER MOUNTS AND STOCK LOWERS ON ALL MY CARS. STOCK TRANNY MOUNT AND WIRED, NOT CHAINED. IF YOU USE SOLID MOTOR MOUNTS YOU ARE NOT ALLOWING THE ENGINE TO PIVOT, THEN THE TRANS BREAKS.... AND STOP SHOVING ENGINES INTO THE FIREWALL FOR STOCK CLASSES, ITS NOT NEEDED....

As crazy as it sounds I say let it float! I use stock mounts on the motor and let the tranny rest on the cross member with no pressure and I wrap the cross member with a tire tube but that it no mount for the trans just let it float works even better now with cable shifters.

I prefer a couple wraps of 9 wire and call it good.

I let the trans rest on the cross member with out tying or strapping it down. I haven't had a problem with it in the last 10 years.
