We were very pleased with the derby, drivers and spectators. For the third time in the last 5 years we have broken the all time attendance record for the Huron County Fair on derby day.
108 total entries for cars and trucks (not including power wheels). Amazing!! We can not thank the derby world enough for helping us make this one of the best county fair derbies in Ohio. We will continue to pay the participators back and find new ways to show our appreciation. Next year I am personally going to donate a set of narrowed SS wheels for a raffle prize. Each driver will get a ticket for participating and will sell raffle tickets. Maybe two sets, one just for the drivers and one set for everyone else with proceeds going back to increase the payout or payout additional places.
I am a "little" disappointed in the car count for the 80's No Protector class. My personal goal was to have 30 cars for this class. We ended up with 21. I know of a few that didn't get finished in time and we put 2 or 3 in with the 80's Bone Stock cars. I heard a lot of people talking that they want to run in this class after watching it. I hope you do. Cheaper build, quicker build for darn good prize money. Not everyone can afford a $15,000 derby car. Those who can, are also welcome to run in this class as long as they follow the rules. There was no blatant attempts to cheat or overbuilding this time around. Special thanks to all the drivers for following the rules.
Needless to say, I don't think we will have any more complaints about long sleeve shirts and pants after Jason McCune's fire. The entire inside of the car was in flames. Very scary moment. And he is not the type of driver who takes shortcut on his builds, especially safety items. Next person who complains will get smacked in the mouth by Jason himself.
Congrats to all the winners. Everyone deserved their win.
We will continue to promote out shows and keep the rules pretty much the same. Fair and equal inspection and treatment to all the drivers who participate is the key. It doesn't matter who takes home the money, weather they are local people or out of towners. All are welcome as long as they are sportsmans and treat us with equal respect.
Special thanks to all the additional sponsors as well. It is much appreciated by the fairboard, inspection crew and drivers.
We will work on more seating, but really there is no more room for any more bleachers! The pit was wrapped with as many seats as physically possible. We will also be enforcing an arrival time next year. If you are not in the pits an hour before the show starts, you will not run. Get there early to avoid the traffic jams.
