We'll see tonnes before the 1st March, which is when the sports main body, (those who decide the rules anyway) have decided they'll be banned from, rumours are that they'll still be allowed in Belgium and at a couple of special meetings a year.
Expecting 4 on Sunday, 2 used, 2 fresh and possibly one more thats used but I'm not 100% on that.

Big update on 4 imperials! At present a handful of individual promoters have banned full frame imperials from being used, and as of March 1st the ORC which is the main promoting outfit in banger racing is going to banning them from all their tracks which is probably all the major tracks you've seen in my threads. The main reasons behind this are down to safty concern, a car which is obviously very, very strong going up against other cars is too risky for injury. Many drivers and spectators have stated that, although the cars are extremely impressive they simply don't fit the spirit of banger racing in which cars bend and are wrecked into all sorts of twisted heaps, seeing a car like an imperial go around destroying everything while taking next to no damage itself just isnt how it is meant to go. There is probably only one last event we'll ever see the cars run at in the middle of Feb which i'll of course bring you photos from. 4 cars were ran on sunday at the banger racing civil war which sees the north and south drivers go against in each other over 3 classes, small, midsize and full size. 341 Andrew Jones and 190 Steve Bailey returned their cars from the world final late last year racing for the southern team, 25 Warren Lovell purchased the '66 car i posted a few pages back from their team and ran it himself for the southern team. His car was running a Rover 3.5 V8 which was originally a Buick 215 V8 manufactured engine which Rover a British car company then used in their cars and did so from the early 60's till around 2008 in many different models of car. This V8 is to us what the SBC is to America so to speak as many petrol heads used the engine in custom car jobs too. 266 Callum Hall returned a '64 imperial which was first ran back in 2013, the original driver organised the Northern team and in the process sold it to Callum to use at the event. who would have thought that a 70's Jaguar hood would fit a 60's mopar?! We'll start with Warren's car first. As far as i know, it was running the original axles, steering and the only welding that was on the car was to hold the trunk lid shut (i believe most of which had to be cut off after inspection to allow it to pass within the event rules) and the traingle plates over the corner of the hood. Apart from that the car was as original as it was when it was shipped over from the USA to be raced. All 3 of the other cars continued to trade paint over the course of the day, not only with each other but with other cars too. In the demolition derby at the end, only 3 Southern cars made it out to compete as the north's cars were too damaged to be repaired in time. 194 Steve 'Cecil' Anscombe deserved a mention for sitting tight and taking on the two imperials before they turned on each other! if you skip to the 9:05 mark in this video, you'll see the highlights from the class the imps ran in www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6ZgRPJrx64

I find it funny that it only took Europe about one year to ban these. Now you know why they're banned pretty much everywhere over here.
You said full framers are being banned, meaning sub framers can still be ran? IMO those noses are even harder and more dangerous for what you guys do.

It's been over 10 years since the first notable Imperial was ran but its only since the imported ones have been raced that it has made such a stir, there is hundreds of posts across about 10 separate threads about imperials arguing yes or no if they should be allowed in banger racing by fans, drivers and promoters on a banger racing forum.
The team of drivers which had them have had a very bad track record with their driving and cheating in car builds. It was a miracle nobody was seriously hurt when they ran the cars at the world final where driver were allowed to go the wrong way on the bends, i don't think there is many people who would feel safe going around a bend at 35mph in a unibody car while the virtually unbend able front end of an imperial is coming at you at the same speed or more. Unfortunately a driver has seriously injured his leg taking a head on from an imperial last week, and that was when his car was stationary facing the wrong way against the fence & the imp bounced off the wall and hit his car let alone a full blown head on!
I think the ban will see all versions of imperials get banned, regardless if it is a full frame one or a later shape one, anything remotely Chrysler imperial based in getting a big No come March 1st from nearly every track. Although it is kinda ironic that the cars are getting banned yet drivers are still getting away with over built cars & dangerous driving, a weapon is only as dangerous as the person in control of it.
The annual valentines day 'Heartbreaker' full size event next month is the last time we'll really see the cars run, but many drivers are either refusing to run in the class if imperials are allowed or will load up and go home if the cars run at the event so even that is in a bit of jeopardy at the moment. With the possibility of getting a few more fresh ones appear out of the wood work an all imperial race separate from the other full size class would be interesting.

well since they are already over there, they may as well have something like a more traditonal derby with the last of them. It would be pretty freaking crazy, and dangerous to have imperials going 45+ into the backs and sides of unibodies..

On the flip side, it has shown how strong the newer shape Mercedes & Toyota/Lexus are that have come up against them, the Mercedes especially have proven to be a real weapon of destruction on the track.
The white '64 imp has ran again today at a team event along side a pre ran suicide Lincoln..a good combination!

Bit of a long over due update, vastly down to these cars being banned for 99.9% of tracks over here now but 583 Dan Weeks had this fresh 1963 Crown Hardtop imperial which was purchased as part of a pair of cars featured earlier in this thread. They were sourced in the UK though not actually imported just for racing. One has been sold to a friend of mine locally which he is planning to race in the summer. Dan raced his one at the weekend at warneton raceway in Belgium, the track is very large, wide and fast much like a scaled down version of a nascar track so the bigger cars do tend to go a bit better around it. There has been a lot of speculation about imperials being ran as bangers, the main points being obviously their strength and secondly the point that the ones which were imported to be raced were arguably driven without due care to other drivers. This particular track have a much more strict build attitude to UK tracks. As the saying goes, 'its a small world' while waiting to board the boat from the UK to France, Dan spotted another imperial at the port which i think is of the same year as his one, this car has been for sale on the internet around Europe earlier this year. To see it at the exact same time as there being another one at the port is a pretty cool coincidence! On the day the car became a large talking point and target as such, the meeting was a pre1980 car event so there was a good amount of other equally big bits of iron. While spun out against the infield wall, Dan firstly took this big shot over the front wheels by 777 Arjan Vorkink in a 70's Lincoln. Now broadside to the track Dan took a tbone directly behind the drivers door, all tbones are banned from this track due to recent hair raising wrecks, from Pontiac. Both the shots ended the cars day due to mechanical issues. We'll hopefully see it run in the near future. in car video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ7V-_5_Cw0 exterior video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIUktQZjhQM Currently the rules for most UK tracks states the banning of large or truck like chassis cars, which the large imperials fall into. Recently the rule was also enforced against this Internation traveller SUV which was manufactured in New Zealend.
