I have personally never used a timing light for a derby car but you could probably find the answer in the sbc build somewhere

I have read this thread twice now...What, if any, is the difference between a TBI and a vortec...can get my hands on a 4.3 TBI with a 4 speed (a low gear and 1-3) tranny from a 87 Chevy R-10.
Also curious if the timing chains on these are the same as the SBC? where the stock have to be swapped from plastic to metal or something similiar
Thanks for any help!
