Look at the backing plate by axle tubes. If the bolts have a square head its BIA. But if it has a normal hexagon looking bolt head its a c clipper.

Is there any way to tell a 10 bolt bolt in axle with out Pulling drum or cover? Also, if the axle tube tapers down to the drum it's clip, if it bulges out, it's BIA.

So I've read a good part of this forum, and I'm taking it they didn't make gears for Buick 12 bolt rear ends? I've got one out of a 72 Electra, just curious if any aftermarket company made a gear for them. I've found some companies do for specific 12 bolts, but none mention buicks. I just find it funny how they don't make gears for the more common 12 bolt out there. I'd like to a 4.11-4.56 They're not more common. That's why. And think about it, who are the people that are going to want to swap gears? Muscle car guys or full size family cars? The two 12 bolts are different and I'm pretty sure parts companies are going to want to appeal to the muscle car guys instead of the grocery getters.

Stromi Do you have to change the mounts on a metric caddy like you do for old iron caddy to put a 10 bolt under it? No Thanks that is what I wanted to hear. My nephew is building a metric caddy and the rearend in it has disk brakes.

Can you re-use the crush sleeve on a 10 bolt rear? Im taking the guts out of one housing and putting them in another.

No. Every housing is slightly different thats the whole purpose of a crush sleeve.

Question. Is there a way to build a 10 bolt that will accept 31 spline axles without cutting and welding on ends?
