Are Northern Auto Parts small block Chevy rebuild kits worth buying? My son is getting ready to start his first derby motor rebuild but don’t have a big amount of money to throw at it. He is looking at a kit from Northern Auto parts and wanted opinions on their kits before he buys.

Last time I bought a kit from them was a long, LONG time ago (1996). It wasn't for a Chevy, but all of the parts were name brand stuff, Fel-Pro gaskets, Crane cams, etc.

I bought one in 2016ish, I thought the gaskets and parts were pretty low grade stuff, but it has all worked fine since then. The following engines I bought nicer name brand gaskets and bearings though.
