2022 MELTDOWN IN MARSHALL
DEMOLITION DERBY RULES & REGULATIONS FOR:
PRO-STOCK MOWERS
LIGHT-MOD MOWERS
TRACK RULES
1. Drivers must be over the age of 14. Drivers under 18 must have a parent/guardian present at sign in.
2. No laying on or across hood trying to repair or start mowers while on the track.
3. Track will be wet!
4. A mower is out on its second rollover, catches fire, or touches any other driver or mower.
5. NO ONE is allowed to leave their mower UNLESS an emergency occurs or is permitted by an official.
6. If your mower dies, you will have 60 seconds to restart and make contact - this is also at the officials discretion! Put on a show and we may give you more time - Sandbag or Gangbang and time will be less.
7. Under RED FLAG conditions all activity ceases until an official waves the GREEN FLAG to restart. Only one warning, any more and you will be disqualified.
8. The Head Official has the right to disqualify ANY mower for safety concerns.
9. Any driver or crew member disobeying the rules will cause his or her vehicle to be disqualified.
Drivers are responsible for the actions of their crew.
Every participant has the right to protest a mower BEFORE the derby. We will not be willing to listen to any complaints after the derby.
2022 Pro-Stock Mower Rules
240 SERIES AND SIMPLICITY WILL BE ALLOWED BUT THEY ARE ONLY ALLOWED (2) 3" X 3" X 1/8" PLATES - SORRY FOR THE MISUNDERSTANDING.
Transaxle
1. You are allowed to use up to 1” shaft transaxles, however, if you are using a ¾” you may use an axle brace.
2. You are allowed to weld spider gears for posi.
3. Pulley swapping is allowed and encouraged.
4. Rear wheels may not be bigger than 12” or smaller than 6”.
Hood
1. Hoods may be seam welded, creased, and folded. But no metal is to be added to the hood.
2. Plastic grilles may be replaced with sheet metal of the same thickness as the hood, but the new grill must have headlight holes.
3. Hoods must be attached to the dash with self-tapping screws or 3/8 bolts.
4. Hoods may be attached to the frame with 2 pieces of 3/4" all-thread or bolted straight to the frame using 3/8 bolts.
5. You must be able to see inside the hood.
Engine
1. Must be a vertical shaft lawn mower engine.
2. Spark plug and carburetor guards are allowed but they must be attached to the engine or the engine plate.
3. Exhaust must go up or down but if you have a stack then make sure it is not dangerous to other drivers.
Fuel Tank
1. Fuel tanks must be secured properly in a location that it cannot be damaged.
2. Fuel tanks that are under the seat may not be used.
3. All fuel lines must have a shut off valve!
Wheels
1. Tires must be air filled.
2. No tire chains allowed.
3. Any tread style allowed, but keep in mind the tracks will be wet.
Frame
1. Non-Craftsman frames without a front exhaust box(stub) are allowed to build a stub to the same dimensions as a Craftsman stub (8” from front of axle to nose and 12” wide) using 3”x3” angle iron.
2. Exhaust plates may be up to 10”x5”x1/8” and welded top and bottom on two sides ONLY! NO EXCEPTIONS!
3. You may plug and seam weld frames and weld fenders to frames, but NO REINFORCEMENTS ALLOWED!
4. You are allowed a 10”x10”x1/8” engine plate. You may use (6) ⅜” bolts OR weld on (2) sides (NOT BOTH), as well as the 4 engine mounting bolts.
5. You are allowed (4) 3”x3”x1/8” patch plates on pre-ran frames. Only 4 plates per frame. (If you have a mower from last year with (2) 3”x3”x1/4” plates you will be allowed but nothing more can be added).
6. NO FRONT OR REAR BUMPERS ALLOWED!
7. Back Bars DO NOT count as bumpers.
Cage
1. 2”x2”x1/8” square tubing or 2” diameter ¼” round pipe. (If you need to use something other than this CONTACT THE PROMOTER first for approval. Not the day of the show).
2. Cage may be attached to the frame at (4) points - two on each side. Two MUST BE directly in front of the running boards. RUNNING BOARDS MUST BE IN STOCK LOCATION!
3. Cages may be welded to running boards and fenders.
4. Leg guards may be sheeted with no thicker than ⅛” sheet metal.
5. You are allowed one top crossbar above the hood and one crossbar in front of the seat.
6. No part of the cage is allowed to be any further forward than the two front points to the frame.
7. NO BELLY BARS ALLOWED.
8. Back Bar MUST BE at least as tall and as wide as the seat.
9. Back Bar can only attach to the frame in (2) places.
Front Axle/Steering
1. Cast iron front axles are allowed but only from the same brand (Craftsman to Craftsman, MTD to MTD, etc.)
2. Must be factory spindles, however, some reinforcement is allowed.
3. Heim Joints are allowed for steering.
4. You may weld or bolt the front axle to prevent it from pivoting.

2. Helmets must be worn at all times while on the track.
3. Drivers must be over the age of 14. Drivers under the age of 18 must have parent/guardian present during registration.
4. Age verification is required. (drivers license, state ID, Birth Certificate, etc.).
Mower Rules
1. Only front engine riding mowers allowed. Must be belt driven.
2. NO ZERO TURN MOWERS ALLOWED
3. Max of 25HP. Vertical shaft ONLY. Factory mower engines only.
4. Seats must be secure.
5. Mower decks must be removed
6. Mowers must have adequate leg protection.
7. NO FRAME REINFORCEMENT BESIDES WHAT IS SPECIFIED IN THE RULES!
8. Foot protection must be welded or bolted, no sheet metal screws allowed unless its enclosed in square/boxed steel.
9. Belly bars are allowed but CANNOT attach to the frame.
10. You may have a front bumper that is the same height as the frame and no wider than 2” from the outside tire edge.
11. Brush guards are allowed but must not be taller than the height of engine.
12. Bumpers may only be attached to the frame in front of the front axle.
13. Craftsman Frames: Bumper shocks can only attach to the frame as far rearward as the front axle.
A. Bumper shocks can only stick out 4” from the front of the frame
B. Bumpers may only stick out 2” more than the bumper shocks.
C. Therefore, there is a 6” bumper total from the front of the frame.
14. All other frames: The total bumper length from the front of the front axle to the tip of the bumper can be no more than 14”. This is the equivalent to the craftsman with a 4” shock and a 2” bumper.
15. No “jagged” bumpers allowed, however, pointy bumpers will be allowed. Must follow the same measurements as above, so be smart. ANYTHING OVER 6” past front of frames will be disqualified or told to cut! For example, if you want a 2 inch pointy bumper then your shocks can go 2 inches past the front of the frame, and a 2 inch bumper welded to that with a 2 inch point on the bumper.
16. “Hard-Nosing” is allowed on frames like a craftsman but can only be in front of the front axle. Any hard-nose plating must have a gap the width of the axle between it and the engine plate if used.
17. You may NOT have a hard-nose and a 4” shock bumper, however, an extra 3” can be added to the front of the frame along with hard-nosing.
18. Craftsman exhaust holes may be plated.
19. Spark plug and carburetor guards are allowed.
20. 10”x10”x1/4” engine plates are allowed.
21. Must have a flywheel cover or metal hood. No plastic grills.
22. Battery and fuel tank CANNOT be in front of the motor and MUST be secured properly.
23. Rear wheels may not be smaller than 6” rims and no larger than 12”rims.
24. Wheels must be open to hits!
25. No dual rear wheels, wheel covers, wheel weights, or tire chains!
26. Pulley swapping is allowed and highly encouraged!
27. Cage may be attached at 4 points. Two on each side.
