Did you put a level on the front rails to make them straight as possible?

Did you put a level on the front rails to make them straight as possible? Not this time, just pulled it down as far as I could and called it good.

First time I have ever broken a 8 3/4 axle shaft. I made a critical mistake with this car as well. I hard nosed bumpers on vics before for friends and never had one bend like this, however I think the shocks are a must. If I had bumper shocks on it the car would not have bent like this.

That is weird bend there.... Looks in one pic like even if the shock was in it would of bent behind it anyways. Did you hit the wall hard or something?

I got shoved into the wall at the end with the drivers side but not the front. It did bend some behind the bolt hole for the bumper shock. I am not sure why it did that exactly other than maybe the way I mounted the bumper. I don't usually do this but I cut a hole in the back of the bumper, both with the first bumper and this one. I pulled the frame rails together and I slid the bumper onto the frame and welded it, I was told to try this and I am not a fan. I will be going back to my old way of mounting them where I just weld it to the end of the frame.

I was thinking about trying that method on my next stock car but after seeing that front end bend like that I'm thinking maybe just stick to what's been working lol

Haven’t seen one bend like that. But we usually cut end of frame with a sawzall straight up n down at the core support mount and hard nose. Even heavy bumpers for wire class and never seen one do that. I’m wondering if you left frame rails while and slid in bumper then when you tilted level you hit a car where there was an original angle (say you hit rear rails on a pre ran so trunk bent up and frame angled) and that put all pressure at top of end of frame enough to start it. I haven’t watched video internet slow tonight. Just a theory.

I hit a vic and made it bend like that both rails. I cleared his bumper and had him solid against wall in rear. Something had to give. I'd say your bumper had alot to do with the rail bending with the way the bumper bent.

I haven’t watched video internet slow tonight. Just a theory. The end of the rails were flat to the front of the external skin of the bumper. After closer examination I think I found out more of the issue. So I never weld the bottom either, the welds started ripping from the bottom of the sides up and let the bumper start to twist and bend. I think then with the twisting bumper it let the bottom of rails kink like they did. I am cutting the ends off the frame now and will weld a 2x4 piece of tubing in the ends of the frame for new frame horns and then will hard nose the bumper to that. Then I am allowed a 12 inch bumper shock so I will be adding that too. Also allowed 2 4x6 1/4 plates per corner for this last show. So I am probably going to plate the joint where the crush box meets the front frame rail. Still gotta figure out where else I will plate it.

Do they bend there still when they aren't tilted?
