The 8.8 in my 08 F-150 Decided to take a crap. I picked up a 9.75 pretty cheap to put in it but wasn't thinking about driveshaft difference. From what I'm finding the nose of the 9.75 is about 3/4in longer. Has anyone done this swap? and is that 3/4 of an inch going to kill me in a driver?

As long as you have an inch and a half of spline engagement you'll be fine in a street daily now if your offroading at steep angles then it could bite ya

Going too far in would be the problem I am concerned about. I think normal driving it would be ok. I'm not sure about when the suspension is loaded. Being over the GVWR a time or two could be what got me in this pickle to begin with.

I've been milling over either putting 1" lift blocks in it, or ad a helper spring to keep the axle further from the trans. Not sure if that would be a perfect fix either. I think tomorrow I will be calling the local drive line shop. I'll get their opinion and see what it would cost to cut the shaft down and balance it if need be.

I dont know what driveline shop you usually go to, but I know you're not too far from me. I use Henderson Driveline for everything. Terry is a great guy to deal with. I'm sure it'd probably be around $150 to have him cut your shaft down an inch or so and have it rebalanced.

That is who I would go with. I've never dealt with them for a personal vehicle but the shop has used them several times over the years. They do good work and its always really quick. I'm still on the fence of which way I want to go. I've kind of been leaning toward just finding an 8.8 or rebuilding mine.
