Realistic Derby project on Beam NG is more than my old laptop can handle. I do a lot of traveling and wait on call at hospitals and will be in the market for a new laptop soon.
I don’t know what minimum requirements would be to run the game efficiently. When I go to look I’d like to know how much ram, memory, processor would be decent. One I have now is a 4 or 5 year old hp with an I7 processor but it’s older gen.
Computer gurus. Lay down some knowledge that can be archived as a reference. TIA

I'm not sure about laptops, but a lot is going to depend on your budget. A really good processor is the biggest need IMO. I have a 2070 super, 16gb of ram, and an i7-9700k and it still eats the cpu usage up with about a max of 15/16 cars at once on lower settings before things start getting choppy.
Unsure if you have a micro center where you are, but they're worth checking out for pricing

Is it better to try and find a computer with high end processor or better ram?

What you are really after is CPU, and the graphics card. Ram is ram, pretty much just buy how much you need. 16gb is reccomended for Beam. Well those that have fb, look up beamng derby addicts and under announcements. The last one (about 4 down) has computer recommendations.

I’d go with the recommended, but buy the better parts if you can. I have a tutorial series on YouTube showing you how to do everything to get started derbying on BeamNG using the RDP mod. My PC has a ryzen 7 2700x, GeForce rtx 2070, 32gb of RAM, windows 10, 2tb hdd, 500gb ssd. If you guys have any questions, feel free to message me!

I have also built a few and can provide some advice. If your looking for a cheap (like under 500) option you will have to buy used.
Laptops are not great for gaming, to get one to game, perform, and keep cool you will have to spend more then a desktop.
If you are looking to buy something built, Ryzen CPUs are almost always more competitively priced over Intel and work totally fine. Beam is a very CPU intensive game, not as much graphically demanding.
I am doing a build right now on the cheaper end that I am confident will run it pretty well that is in the $700 range. This includes:
Ryzen 5 3600
AMD 5500XT graphics card (there is certainly better, but this is a competitive price to performance ratio, and there is a national shortage of video cards)
16GB DDR4 3200 Ram (Dual Channel)
1TB M.2 storage
That's the main pieces. I have built a heavier computer but it's overkill unless you plan on running many games.
Always glad to help out, and if you have a question for me please just ask on here, always glad to help.

I’d buy a desktop hands down but I’m a traveling nurse so I need laptop for when I’m on call and hanging in the hospital. I’m looking at dropping a grand at least unfortunately.

I have attached some options, its important to remember this game is more CPU demanding then graphics. But it does suck, it would be nice if they found a clean way to port it to a system, it would make the game alot more obtainable for people. www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog-zephyrus-m15-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660-ti-512gb-ssd-prism-gray/6403813.p?skuId=6403813www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-legion-5-15-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i7-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660-ti-512gb-ssd-phantom-black/6398969.p?skuId=6398969www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-pavillion-16-1-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660-ti-512gb-ssd-32gb-optane-shadow-black/6409145.p?skuId=6409145www.microcenter.com/product/622243/asus-tuf-gaming-a15-tuf506iu-ms76-156-laptop-computer---graywww.microcenter.com/product/628602/acer-nitro-5-an515-54-728c-156-gaming-laptop-computer---blackwww.microcenter.com/product/621986/maingear-vector-2-156-gaming-laptop-computer---black
