Has anyone ever ran 8 to 5 lug adapters? If so how did they hold up in the derby? I have a 14 bolt axle and my local shows won't allow me to run 8 lugs. They only allow 5. And yes I know they are hub adapters out there to convert it to 5 lugs. Thats my goal for this winter but I was just curious if anyone has ran them.

I mean, its a pretty solid system so I doubt you would have trouble with them, but how much do they cost? If they are a a significant amount of money, I think the 5 lug hubs are only $400 and it would only take a couple hours to do the swap, even if you are unfamiliar with it.

The only adapters that I found with a quick search is a little over $300. So not much of a price difference between them.

Why not just knock out 3 studs? that turns it into a 5 lug pretty fast. and sometimes more is less, worrying about wheels sticking out further or shearing something off. just my 2cents

I went over the 2020 rules for rear ends and it state "any 5 lug rear ends of passenger car origin may be used." So either hopefully they'll update the rules, or they allow the 14 bolt converted to 5 lug.

They have the rules typed up perfectly for that reason. No need to update any rules. Build a 5 lug rearend and be done, or you'll be loading up at the show and pissed off because you couldn't squeeze through with that 14 bolt.

You are 98% correct, the full float 10.5 14 bolt was never offered in a passenger car, but some of the 80s and newer (not exactly sure exactly what years) Caddy Limos and hearses had the 9.5 semi float coil sprung 14 bolt and could be used as a "grey" area axle choice.

I've asked a few guys around me about if they thought the fire department would allow the use of 14 bolt axles. And they all said that they're several guys that run them and just did the 5 lug conversion and the fire department never said anything about them. Granted our fire department doesn't really know what they're looking for when they inspect the cars.
