I can not give a opinion on the 8.8 , but the 10 bolt will not hold up under stock horsepower ,much less any thing above & skidders. Now you add some Moser 33 spline axles & full spool in a 10 bolt, now you got something. Weld tubes to housing.

I have to disagree to that some. I have seen many 10 bolts ran bone stock and live. Now saying that I wouldn't anymore but starting out it can be done. I don't think there's a significant change in strength but believe the 10 bolt is better in stock form

if these are your only 2 choices i'd do the 10 bolt without double tires.

I ran a 10bolt 28 spline axle for years in old iron cars, built stock and modified classes and never had much issue using them. Don't make your tires too heavy though cause that will cause them to twist when switching gears....best advice I can give is to NOT switch gears while on the gas and never take a shot in the wheel while on the gas, also my preference has been to always leave the drums on so there isn't added leverage to each hit. All my opinion though so take it as you wish.
To answer the original question 10 bolt over the 8.8....seen tons of 8.8s snap

You are correct, I missed that fact in the original post that it was a 31 spline 8.8. I'd say either would be ok for the most part...just really depends on the builds anymore Thank you
