What’s your guy opinion on using priority main oiling for a Chevy 350? Good, bad, not worth it?

Cam Bearings are where i put my attention....I'm no engine builder. But have put together a few in my days and have owned a couple of builders engines. Only issues i've had are very hot with no water and a longer duration of time i melt the cam bearing out of them... Crank and rods usually seem pretty good when i have checked on them. I'd say good oil and filter. Maybe a heavier springed oil pump for more flow and make sure and have enough oil in them. Remember when running alot of RPM there isn't much oil in the pan at that point in time...
so to answer your question i'd try these before changing the design of it....

Just picking brains as I’d like to have some great bearings followed by forgiving clearances and decent ring gaps. Don’t mind learning myself either if I have to though but a nudge in the right direction is always appreciated.

Have you read in the tips about grinding down some of the ridges at the top of the block in the valley above timing chain etc? Sbc build tips page 3. Jokers original sbc build post goes into great detail how to do stock engine builds.

I’ll get all ridges & rough castings edges burred off. Thsnks

I’ll be checking the oil return holes and cleaning up all passages. The more I read about priority oiling the more I might stay away from it. Thanks

Also with the roller cam bearings I know the block has to be machined to accept them, but does the cam require a different bearing journal diameter as well?

I had yet to find bronze bearings. Originally pointed in direction of Baldwin but they stopped doing it and only offer roller. With my budget I ended up going with king hp mains with the elongated oil holes and coated cam bearings. I’ve also toned down my original build plans and went more conservative. If you find any message me. I’m more curious than anything at this point.

Roughly what's it cost for Baldwin to machine and install their roller bearings? Idk I wasn’t interested in them. My local machine shop said they could do it as well. I asked out of curiosity. I know the machine work for it was going to be around $200 but can’t remember exactly. I didn’t ask how much the bearings themselves were.
