Heat dissipation without a giant drum would be really hard, a pinion brake spins however much gear (say 4.56) times faster than the wheel.

I don't see how it's different from the transmission brake that mounted with yokes. Just now you'll put it back on rearend so it's not making you cut out the tunnel to run one.

Absolutely I do, offroad uses pinion brakes a decent amount with rockwell axles the reason they're getting so hot is the sheer speed or the driveshaft rotation. You could try it but I fear it would be in vain. A large drum in the 10-12 inch range or so from like a 57 Chevy car front or something may work but the size would be quite large, pinion brakes usually use like honda sized rotors due to space constraints

I suppose that drum could potentially be brittle and brake since its cast. I’ve never really seen a normal disk break before

Multitude of issues from it, primarily mounting, weight on drive train, size (if a car bellys thats alot more hanging out the front). Off the top of my head. But further then that drums are more work to take care of, harder to maintenance (and more expensive), if mud gets into the drum which could be a possibility theres no way to get it out while discs are self cleaning in a way. And if a drum gets heat soaked, which can happen, and we see it even on disc that are glowing, it reduces stopping power and will take signficantly longer to cool down.
Can it be done? Im sure. Is there any benefit or any real reason to do it? I am not so sure.

Disc may have more stopping power than a drum brake does, depend on what you read. For the same effort, the drum supposedly better.
In some ways I think the brake on the rearend makes more sense than it does on the transmission. It may be less force on the driveshaft?
