I know this has been discussed ad nauseum but I can't find any of the old threads. I'm buying a house and planning on breaking ground on a shop in the spring. I've talked to a couple people on here and am leaning towards a 38x46. I'm not going smaller than that. I want to go 40×60 but really don't want to heat that. People with similar size shops, how do you like it?

What do you plan on putting in there? I have a 40x45 now 12 foot side walls and we build 3 full size cars in there and it is tight. I make it work but and if i only did one car it would be plenty. Bigger is always better when it comes to shop size. I have a bench and shelf on one side and bar and engines on other wall and a 10x10 bathroom and air compressor and heat in the back corner. 10 foot door on that side and a 12 food on the other side with a 9 foot drive out centered in that bay with a hoist 28 feet in from 12 foot door. with car in lift i can get a car on one side of it with maybe 2 feet of room in between. Really wish i had done 60 long and then i could have a lot more room and also be able to pull trailer in with car on it and close the door. I can now but it is tight. If car in lift then cannot fit trailer in. I am building a new show now to cure all the issues i've had in the past... 60x140 with divider wall in middle at 70. 16 ft sidewalls 2 14 foot doors with one 14 foot door in middle wall and 2 14 footers out the back. One side will be shop and other storage to try and keep some the nasty dust off stuff. All in floor heat. I can't wait. Have frost walls poured going to do pad in a week or two.
