I have a 454 that was in running shape a few years ago, a few 350s, a ls1, a 5.3 truck motor with carb set up, an inline 6, and a Pontiac 400. Which one would be a better engine for a derby? Pros and cons of each one?

I don't have many spare parts for the 454, inline 6, or 400. But I've ran the 454 a few years ago and it never let me down. The car was bent in half but still ran strong. The 350 I ran last year was strong. People couldn't catch me with that engine. And the 5.3 I ran this year in the same car as I ran last year. And I got tagged team by my friends because I accidentally took one of them out last year. But the 350 had small issues like the distributor cap came off, and fuel pump wire came out of the pump, and number 6 rod knock the day before the derby. I went into the derby trying to blow it up. And it held together. The 5.3 had very low oil pressure and it started to have lifter rattle. I'm comfortable with working on any engine.

The 350s and 5.3 LS will have the most available aftermarket parts derbywise. So if it were me I’d go that route. But that’s just my opinion.
