Got a 78 Caddy that Im slowly building for an 80s wire show. GM on GM, Ford on Ford, etc. Rearend has to be a direct bolt in metric rear, luckily GM makes a BIA metric rear. Unlimited wire, no protectors, no sliders. I travel for work during the summer so itll be a slow build and Ill run it at our local promoters show that lines up with when Im home. Most of you know how I feel about metric GMs but its what we used to run back in the day for 80 and newer shows and its the only way to run a Chevy motor for this class. So I used some old ideas and some new so far. So far, this is about 2 and a half days of work. The basic 4 point cage in Tank protector and rear down bars in Rear bumper welded on. Used a Nova rear. Got the trunk notched and tucked. Tried a little something different, guess we'll see. Who needs the trunk 1/4 braces anyway... Need to slice the gas tank pads underneath yet as well and need to dish the trunk a little. So far, thats it until Im back home.

Glad to see a metric build thread. Just give it love in the front make rear roll right below window an if arch does collapse on you it will bend to axke tube an stop. Glad luck with your thread. I'll post one when I start in my next car.
One must on it is take a chain an run it rear pillar to pillar. We all know they like to spread.

great build. The 28 spline 10 bolt BIA is ok, but how would they tell if it were a 12 bolt or B body 10 bolt other than it's 2" wider? You couldn't get away with that?

Link to the rules? I'm curious to how those actual read. Good luck. I've only ran 1 stock metric Caddy and it was decent car, definitely a way different car than I was used to.

Not to be that guy but they have a metric caddy thread. But it covers 77-96(?). I do think it should be separated because the 77-79s, and the 80+s are similar but different

77-79 front clip on a real early 80s two door caddy body. 😉best combo for metric caddy. Have had luck with all my caddys though. They are fun cars

Got back home for 10 days. Had a couple baby showers thrown in the mix (due July 16th). Got a few things done. Got the tie rods made up and installed and got the bumper seam welded and plated the back. Used a 77 LTD bumper I had. Mocked up PVC tie rods Wanted 1/4" wall and needed a 1" hole for the bungs. Wasnt paying attention to the OD when I ordered the tube. Lil bigger than I needed/wanted.... Got the bumper "welded" on. Just one pass around for now, ran out of time Til Im home again.....

How would you compare a 70s ford bumper to a vic bumper? I've never ran one and could probably pass that one as an 80s+

Plated hole bumper of 70s it's good. But if stock vs stock the 80s will last longer unless you have a 73 merc (internal gussets) front bumper or Torino or elite front.

This one has internal gussets. The Bird bumper I ran was a little different.
I left it stock except seam welded and backing plated because I don’t like loaded hard bumpers on stockish cars.
I think my buddy ran a bone stock 70s LTD on a stockish GM a while back. It flattened out but stayed decent for the show it was in.
