I need input and advise guys, I have a 05 Town car with a 1 very lite run on it, black frame and a heat seized engine. I dont want to take it across the scales but rather transplant a new engine into it, unfortunately i dont have a sbc or anything like that or the means to get 1. I do have a good running 03 f150 with a 4.2 Engine and auto trans in it runs and drives good, Since the 4.2 and the 4.6 (dead engine) both use the same bell housing pattern do i have to swap transmissions too or would i just have to put the 4.2 in and bolt it up to the trans still in the town car. Ive never under taken a project of this magnitude like this before looking to learn lots. derby isnt until september or august. Thoughts??

No bud, the bellhousing should not be the same. 4.2l uses the same bell as an old small block Ford. I'm also pretty sure that the torque converter pattern is the same as small block too. If you wanted to convert it over for one last run, just grab an old Ford trans, bolt it up and drop the pair in. But there are so many other options to drop in than that 4.2l.

I know there are lots of options i just dont have the money to go buy a setup or a different engine trans combo.

Idk how it is up there, but 4.6s are a dime a dozen here. I'm sure if you ask around you could find someone to get a replacement 4.6 for next to nothing.

Town Cars and P71's have the long tailshaft trannies where the Vics and GMs have the regular one. I have no idea where the tranny on the 4.2 measures up compared to what's in your TC.

I’ll climb under and take a measurement and then take a measurement of the 4.2 see where it all stands.
