I recently bought a 64 imperial. Ive never ran a push button transmission before. So any tips or suggestions would be helpful. Im not sure if im over thinking it or if they have down side that i dont know about.
Also any tips to build this thing as solid as possible would be much appreciated.

They fail from daily driving. I would get a cable shifter or trans mounted shifter. Save yourself the headache

There is nothing wrong with a push button 727 torqueflite trans.Old drag racers have won several championships with them in the past.I have also watched my dad and uncles win several demolition derbys with them in the past.My dad has told me he actually preferred them over automatic on the column in the 70's and 80's,before all this aftermarket fancy home made derby only shit came out...Actually my father in law won several features with a 64 Chrysler imperial in NE Ohio with a push buttom 727 trans and a 413 bigblock in it.It was called "captian crunch".Just ask around about "Demo John Smith" that owned and operated J and C towing and auto parts.

Can you make a push pull shifter and adapt the cables to fit it and be reliable. I have 3 of these now and have never used them. They have bolt on yokes and I like that.
