2018 Delaware County, Delaware, Ohio. Start time is 5 p.m. Inspection will open at noon, after 4:00 p.m. if you have not been registered and inspected you will be charged a $50.00 late fee. Inspection will Close at 4:45, if you haven't been registered and through inspection you will be unable to run. We have a start time we must adhere to, please make it to the show on time. We will have Powerwheels, Youth, Passenger, Compact, Bonestock Class, Mid-size, Mild-Weld, and a Build class. Looking forward to another great derby. 2018 Hatfield Promotions Rules 80’s Mild Weld Class Rules and 80’s Class Passenger Heat
The Driver must be registered and vehicle must be inspected 1 hour prior to start time of show or a $50 late fee will be imposed before your vehicle will be inspected. Inspection will close 15 minutes prior to the drivers meeting and the start of the derby, it is the responsibility of the driver to be there on time. No Exceptions!
General
1. This class is limited to full size hard top (80's and newer model) automobiles or station wagons. Some 70's are eligible if the body style was made into the 80's. Examples: GM full size cars 77-up, Ford LTD & Granada 79-up, Chrysler Newport & New Yorker 79-up. Please call if in Question. Wheel base of over 108” and 6 or 8 cylinder engines only. No ambulances, convertibles, hearses, limos.
2. Drivers must be at least 16 years old for this class. Only one entry per person per class.
3. There is no Entry Fee for this derby so no pre-entries. However, everyone must pay to get into the fair and pits. This includes the driver and pit personnel. Driver (and passenger) must be registered and vehicle must be inspected 1 hour prior to start time of show or a $50 late fee will be imposed.
4. This class will be a one heat, one shot deal. The top 3 drivers will receive money and a trophy. Payout will be based on car count. Mad Dog trophies will be available and given to any deserving drivers.
5. Safety belts, helmets and eye protection are required. Full length pants and long sleeve shirts are highly recommended for your safety. Demolition Derbies are hazardous and a high risk sport. Neither the Fair Board nor Track Officials are responsible for any injuries sustained by driver or pit crew before, during or after the event.
6. Drivers are responsible for the actions of their crew members. Any driver or pit person found to be unruly due to the influence of drugs or alcohol will be disqualified and removed from the grounds.
7. No profanity will be allowed on any portion of the car. Please remember, this is a Family Event.
8. Neither the Officials nor Fair Board will be responsible for any cars, parts or property before, during or after the show.
9. The track officials have the right to reject any entries and to re-inspect any cars at any time. All rules are subject to change and the Officials have the final say. Judges decisions are Final
PREPARTION OF CAR
1. Car number must be on a sign mounted securely on top of car, (at least 12” tall, max 24” long).
2. Remove all glass, head and tail lights, and clean inside of car and trunk of all glass and debris before arrival at fairgrounds. This applies to metal parts, trash, screws, nails, nuts, bolts and glass. Broken glass inside doors is not permitted. Chrome molding strips, side-view mirrors, protruding outside door handles and emblems must be removed. All rear seats must be removed, including third seat and decking plates on wagons. All air bags and charges must be disconnected and removed.
3. Front doors can be welded shut with ¼” x 3” Max and re-enforced (inside or out) for safety. Only flat metal can be used on outside and cannot exceed 6” past doors vertical seams. Inside of front doors can be re-enforced with anything safely. Top of door skins can be rolled over and welded, no extra metal or plating may be added. Rear doors must be chained, wired, or welded shut. 8 spots of chain and or wire may be used for rear doors if using that method. 5/16ths Max chain or 2 strands of #9 wire max per hole. You may weld washers for wire holes only. Only 2 places of wire or chain may run through bottom of door around rocker and frame, and back through. Only 2 places of wire or chain may run through rear doors to the roof. If you weld the rear doors shut you can use ¼” x 3” max flat strapping all the way around the door. No excessive overlapping permitted. You can only wire, chain or weld, no combinations.
4. Drivers area: Pipe, angle iron, square tubing, or steel bar no larger than 4” can be used to build a rectangular safety zone. You are allowed a dash bar and seat bar can be connected with door bars. Door bars cannot extend any further than the dash bar and seat bar. The dash and seat bars can use a flat plate on each end (12”x12” max). The rear seat bar must be within 4” of rear of seat and end plates can only be welded to door posts and doors. Do not extend the end plates to the floor. A roll over bar can be welded to the bar behind the seat and run straight up (no tilting) and over the roof. No cages or any other re-enforcements inside the car. The front bar MUST BE 4” AWAY FROM DISTRIBUTOR PROTECTOR, NO EXCEPTIONS !
5. Windshield area: You MUST install a metal strap, chain or wire in the windshield area for the drivers protection to help prevent hood from coming in. If using strap, 3/8th” x 3” Max, it cannot extend 6” past the top of the cowl, or 6” past the front of the roof.
6. Motor swaps are allowed (IE; GM to Ford, GM to Chrysler, Chrysler to GM, etc). The mounting is limited to OEM factory motor mounts and a single (3/8 “ x 6” x 6”) plate to help develop a mounting surface for the OEM motor mounts. Mounting and securing of the motor using plate and chain but cannot add strength to the frame in any way! Chains must run to the frames engine cradle, they cannot run to frame rails. Exhaust stacks must come up through the hood. Carburetors must have air cleaners. Lower engine cradles and Distributor Protectors are allowed but CANNOT strengthen the car in anyway. They CANNOT attach to each other in anyway. Lower cradles may have a pulley protector. Distributer protectors cannot be wider than the stacks. They may have a halo but it must bolt to engine. The Distributor Protector CAN NOT be within 4” of the front cage bar as shown in rule #4. No exceptions!
7. Rear-ends & trailing arms must be stock. Spider gears can be welded. Slider drive shafts are allowed.
8. Suspension must be stock unless noted. Shock helper springs and coil ex-panders may be used to help weak or broken coil springs or (2) places per A-arm 4 total, can have a MAX of 2” x 2” x ¼” plate welding the a-arm to the frame. Factory leaf sprung cars must have original number of springs and thickness. Replacement leafs must have a 2” stair-step. No homemade flat stock springs. Four leaf spring clamps per side, at least 1 clamp in front of axle.
9. Frame: The top seam of the forward frame, from A-arm to bumper ONLY, may be welded with a single bead weld. ABSOLUTELY NO WEAVE WELDING or it will be cut for you to run. Notching of rear frame is ok but no re-welding. Pre run cars are allowed up to 4 frame patch repairs and MUST have noticeable damage to justify the repair. Patches cannot exceed ¼” x 4” x 4” in size. No other frame modifications are allowed other than what is specifically stated herein the rules.
10. Bumpers must be a factory or aftermarket replacement made design or tube steel. Stock TNT or DEC style only to be used if aftermarket. If tube they can be 4 inch MAX outside diameter by 5/16th wall and the end must remain open. They can be mounted by using 1 of the following methods; bolted, chained, wired, or welded. Bumper shocks may also be drained and pushed in. Outer bumper shell may also be welded to inner backing but no extra steel can be added.
*If bumper has aluminum backing it can be re-bolted directly thru the front of the bumper with no larger than ½” bolts, cut off flush with the nut. If bolting, all other bolts must use the factory size bolts. *Wiring with #9 wire max, up to 8 loops from frame to around or thru the bumper in 2 places. *Chain link size can be 3/8” max. You may use chain from frame to bumper or from frame around bumper in 2 places. Last link only can be welded or bolted. Links cannot be welded together. *Welding using a minimal single pass weld and no filler metal. All of the following MUST be observed; only welding from bumper to bumper backing plate, backing plate to the shock, inner and outer shock tubes, and shock to frame. If no shock tube or mounting bracket is used, the bumper can use a single 4” x 4” x ¼” plate max to mount the bumper.
11. Battery: 1 of any size allowed. Must be mounted inside on the floor board and covered. They MUST be mounted to a metal tray or box and 100% securely fastened to the floor. Use of bungees, zip ties, seat belts, rope, electrical wire and plastic tie downs are NOT allowed. Your battery will be SECURELY fastened or you will not run.
12. Radiators must be mounted in stock location. Comparable replacement radiators are permitted. Transmission coolers are allowed. They can be under the hood, and all lines must be covered. If it is placed by holes in the firewall, the drivers compartment must be shielded from that with a non-flammable material. You can also securely mount it behind front passenger compartment, but it must be done in a secure way using high quality lines and safely. We are allowing this for the safety of your choice in what manner you prefer, do not abuse it. We don’t want anyone to get injured.
13. Body: No welding or patching on body unless approved in advance by an official. Rusted through floors inside the car between the firewall and rear axle can be patched for driver, gas tank and battery safety. Body spacers may be changed, but must be 1” thick, no welding to the frame. Body mount bolts may be changed using a ½” max bolt, washers no larger than ¼” x 3”, and they must be in original position in the top side of frame only, and pass through nut no more than 1”. Do not Stretch this rule, or you will remove it. 3 bolts per wheel well may be added, 3/8th max bolt size with 2” max washers. No severe wedging or tucking of vehicle. Minor creasing or denting is OK but don't get carried away. We would like them to look stock their first time out. Pre-run cars are allowed more leniencies in body tucking, denting & creasing. For seriously damaged car changes call first. Example: if you are going to sedagon a wagon call first.
14. Gas tanks: THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE THERE IS!!!! Stock tanks are NOT allowed. A portable tank or fuel cell must be 100% SECURELY FASTENED behind the front seat to the floor and covered with a non-absorbent material. A metal box or tray mounted to the floor with the gas tank placed into the tray is highly recommended. Ratchet straps, wire, zip ties, uni-strapping, seat bealts, etc are NOT suitable ways to mount fuel cells, and will not be accepted. Gas tank protectors are allowed and cannot exceed 24” in width & back side of protector cannot be attached to any vertical sheet metal. Gas line connections MUST be secured with clamps (not tape, zip ties, etc).Cars equipped with electric fuel pumps MUST have a kill switch mounted at the base of the driver’s door post at the dash area for easy reach by safety personnel. All fuel lines and fittings should be pressure tested quality and be covered and/or wrapped for driver’s safety.
15. Tires: No restrictions on tire size. Solids and doubles are allowed. No wheel weights on drive axle and no studded snow tires. Valve stem protectors are allowed.
16. Hoods, Trunks and Tailgates can be bolted in 6 spots from sheet metal to sheet metal only OR wired or chained in up to 8 spots. Chain size of 5/16th” or wire size of 9 gauge Maximum with no more than 2 strands per spot. No more than 4 of the locations can be run to bumper or frame. Hoods must be left open for inspection. Hood must have a hole above carburetor at least 4” larger than air cleaner. If stacks are used an 8” hole around each stack is acceptable. Car must have a hood, and fan must be covered or removed. Trunks or tailgates can also be welded. If welded , no wire or chain may be used. Strapping can be 1/4” x 3” Max size allowed, in 4 places total, 6” max per place. 24 total inches of welding to trunk lid, sheet metal to sheet metal only. If this rule is abused you will remove the entire strap, over 24” allowance, off the car. Hood bolts can be a maximum of 5/8th with a max 6” washer. The bolts must attach to sheet metal only, except the front 2 may go through core support to frame, 3 inch tall x 2.5 x 2.5 square tubing max size for core support spacer and are for clearance only. If angle iron is used to bolt hood down, max angle size is ¼”t x 3”w x 6”l in no more than 4 of the hold downs.
17. Transmission: No transmission protectors allowed. No cradles, bellhousing or tail housings can be changed. Must be a stock transmission in Stock configuration. You can use a stock crossmember with stock mounting configuration to the car, or a 2”x2”x1/4” square tube or 1 ½” x 3” x ¼” C-channel MAX with a pc of angle no larger than 2”x3”x1/4” on each end for frame placement. After market shifters are allowed.
18. Modified steering column is allowed. Slider driveshaft is allowed. Tie-rods can be modified or aftermarket.
OFFICIALS HAVE THE FINAL DECISION ON ALL RULES!

1. Any 1980 and newer cars. No hearses, limousine’s or custom cars permitted. THERE WILL BE NO WELDING OR FABRICATION allowed on car unless specifically stated in these rules. They will be strictly enforced.
2. Cars must remain 100% stock! Any modifications not specifically stated and allowed in these rules will be cause for the infraction to be completely removed, bump you to a class you can pass inspection in, or not run! No cross breeding of drive line, must be same make as car (Chevy to Chevy, Ford to Ford and so on). Must appear to be factory engine to car with stock exhaust, exhaust may be cut off. Stock shifters and gas pedals only. No homemade or aftermarket fabrications or cables may be made to either.
3. Engine must be mounted with stock mounts in stock position. No welding of mounts, O.E.M. bolted only. No homemade cross members. Cross members must be of stock origin and bolted in stock configuration. No welding.
4. You MUST relocate the fuel tank to rear floor of car. You MUST use a fuel cell or boat tank, no stock fuel tanks permitted inside of car. THE FUEL CELL MUST BE SECURELY FASTENED to floor with bolts, preferably inside a metal box or a top strap covering the tank bolted to an angle iron cradle securely bolted to floor, or mounted off your rear bar. All lines must be covered in non-flammable material. Ratchet straps, wire, zip ties, uni-strapping, seat bealts, etc are NOT suitable ways to mount fuel cells. Your fuel cell MUST be secure in your car, or you WILL NOT RUN. Period. This is the most important rule, it is for your protection as well as everyone else.
5. You MUST remove windshield for this class! You must have a wire or chain back in the windshield area to protect from the hood coming in. 4 strands of #9 wire or 5/16ths chain Max. The following must also be removed prior to entering the fairgrounds; windows, headlights, taillights, all chrome and mirrors, interior, and any other flammable items. Interior must be swept clean of all debris and glass. You must remove all glass, plastic, and fiberglass on outside of car, this includes plastic bumper covers.
6.You can strip any flammable items under the hood not necessary to the car. A small amount of spray foam may be used to help secure radiator to core support if tie downs are removed, or 2 places of #9 wire 2 strands max per spot, can be used all the way around radiator and core support. You may have one or the other, not both! You MUST move the battery to the passenger compartment front floor of the car, you may lengthen cables to the reach battery on floor if needed but not the wiring harness. This will be strictly enforced.
7. If the car has a wiring harness in front of core support you may move it behind the core support, You cannot remove body mount bolt to do this. You may secure it behind the core support, but not in a manner that strengthens the car.
8. All body bolts MUST be factory stock, O.E.M. to that car. Absolutely NO altering permitted in any way to body bolts, mounts, frame holes, body, pucks, or spacers. It MUST remain in its original factory configuration. If there is a safety issue inside the driver’s compartment, more specifically in a way that is crucial to driver’s safety, you MUST call first. Pictures will be needed, and any repairs must be done exactly as described by the Head Officials.
9. Doors must be chained or wired shut. No more than 8 places per door. You may use 5/16” chain max or 2 strands of #9 wire max per hole, one or the other, not both. No more than 2 places per door only may wrap around anything other than from to body to body. 2 places per door may wrap the bottom of door around the rocker and the frame, Only 2 places. If you abuse this rule you will lose it. You MUST paint the front doors in bright contrasting paint, preferably white showing against another color, but it must be bright.
10. Trunks must be chained or wired. No more than 8 places max. If using wire, no more than 2 strands per hole. NO trunk chains or wires may contact the frame, shock, or bumper. They must be sheet metal to sheet metal only. TRUNKS MUST BE OPEN DURING INSPECTION! Original, unaltered deck lid and or tailgate must be in factory position on car or be completely removed. You CANNOT remove the speaker deck from car. No welding or adding metal. ABSOLUTEY NO fabrication to body panels, in any way. NO tucking, wedging, pre-bending, smashing, folding , cutting, peening, etc. If your vehicle is pre-ran you can only fix the trunk in a way that does not strengthen the car, and pull up or cut out wheel wells to give you tire clearance. No alterations permitted otherwise. No welding washers to body for wire.
**********11. NO CREASING OF THE BODY IS PERMITTED IN ANYWAY**********
12. Hoods must be open for inspection. Hoods can be wired or chained in 8 spots max. You may use 5/16” chain or 2 strands of #9 wire per hole. It must be sheet metal to sheet metal only. No welding of washers for holes. There MUST be a 12" hole in the hood in case of fire. You MUST remove the hood latch and hood springs.
13. Any tire and O.E.M. wheel permitted. Doubled tires okay. No foam filled tires, bead locks, or studded tires permitted. Wheel weights must be removed.
14. You can have a bar behind driver’s seat for safety if you choose, and it is highly recommended. They can be no bigger than 2.5” X 2.5” max o.d. The mounting plate for each end can be no bigger than 6”X6” and mounted no farther rearward than 6” behind driver’s seat. You may also reinforce the driver’s door as you see fit for driver safety. This may be done from door seam to door seam only. If reinforced on the outside, it must be with flat material only, and cannot attach to rear door or front fender. It must be welded inside the door seams and contained to the drivers door only.
15. Stock O.E.M. to the vehicle type springs and shocks. No solid suspension. Screw in type spring risers can only be used to help worn out suspension, no more than 4 per front spring only. No alterations to rear springs can be made. NO wire, chains or any weld on rear ends or rear spring pockets. You can wire the rear coil springs to top of package tray, and to the rearend with 1 strand of wire, in each of the 4 contact surface area to contain the coil under the vehicle, not to add strength in any way. Factory leaf sprung cars must have original leafs packs in place, in original configuration, with no alterations. They must be factory leaf springs in O.E.M. configuration, with stock pins and u-bolts. Cars must bounce & cars suspension must be STOCK!!!!!
16. Only 1980 & newer bumpers are permitted on car. They must bolt on in factory location and manner. The shocks can bolt only to frame in original configuration. You may collapse the shock and weld 2- 1” welds on each shock to the shock tube, you may weld the shock to the front plate, and 2- 3” welds from the front plate of the shock to the bumper. TNT or DEC style replacement bumpers are permitted, bolted together only, NO SEAM WELDING OF ANY BUMPERS ! NO EXCEPTIONS! The ends must remain open with no metal added to bumper in anyway. No end caps or internal gussets can be used inside any bumpers, they must be open all the way through. If car has no shocks, the bumper may be welded directly to frame with no metal added, with 2-3” max welds per frame rail. On the back side of bumper, only where the shock mounts, if you have to create a flat surface to mount to, you may use a ¼” X 4” X 4” piece of flat metal to create the flat mounting surface. If it’s a flat surface already, you CANNOT weld on any plate, but you may weld a chain from frame to bumper, 1 per each frame rail. You can weld 2 links of chain to the bumper and 2 links to the frame, top side only, no links welded between, 5/16th chain max.
17. You may weld spider gears in rear end to make it positive traction. You must use the original O.E.M. factory rear end for car you are running. You CANNOT change the gear ratio or use aftermarket axles. If it is believed that you may have changed the gear set up or replaced with aftermarket axles, the burden will be driver’s responsibility to prove otherwise, or they will forfeit all entries and winnings.
18. Please read all rules carefully and follow them! This entire class is for a cheap easy build, for anyone to enjoy. Any questions, please call! There will be no stretching or bending of any rules, They will be strictly adhered to!!! These are a list of rules you are allowed to perform to fabricate your car, nothing further is allowed. If you push a rule, you will lose that rule and completely remove it from the vehicle or you can either run in a modified class or not run. The rules are clearly defined for all bumper and shock welding, the safety bar and driver’s door welding, and internal rearend welding. These are the ONLY welds allowed on the car.

Compacts , Mid-Size, and Youth Mid-Size Rules
1. The Driver must be registered and vehicle must be inspected 1 hour prior to start time of show or a $50 late fee will be imposed before your vehicle will be inspected. Inspection will close 15 minutes prior to the drivers meeting and the start of the derby, it is the responsibility of the driver to be there on time. No Exceptions!
2. All classes will be run as single heat/feature events (one shot deals) down to the car making last aggressive contact. Prize money and trophies will be awarded to the top 3 finishers.
3. Drivers are responsible for the actions of their crew members. Any driver or pit person found under the influence of alcohol, drugs or becomes unruly will be disqualified and removed from the grounds. They could be barred from future events.
4. No profanity will be allowed on any portion of the car. Please remember, THIS IS A FAMILY EVENT.!!!
5. All rules are subject to change and the Officials have the FINAL say. It is impossible to list everything that you can and cannot do. We realize that rules will be bent, stretched, pushed to the max and tested with new ideas. Weather any stipulations or variations to these rules are allowed or not is the Officials decision, AND IT IS FINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TYPES OF CARS 1. Any hard top Foreign or Domestic automobile or station wagon is allowed.
2. Compact Class: Cars with a wheel base of 103” or less & a 4 cylinder engine only.
3. Mid-size Class: Cars with a wheel base of 109” or less rear wheel drive, 110” or less front wheel. 4 or 6 cylinder engine only.
Youth Heat Cars Only 1. All Youth Heats are limited to front wheel drive cars only and to follow mid-size rules and build specifications.
2. A Youth class is limited to kids 12-15 years old without a driver's license.
3. A notarized parental consent form must be filled out or you will not be allowed to participate. One parent must be present with valid ID. A notary will be present to notarize the entry forms.
4. An adult must ride with the driver. No exceptions. This is for instructional purposes as well as safety.
5. Youth driver will be tested on the operation of car at inspection line. DO NOT wait the day of the show to put your kid in the car for their first time.
6. There will be a separate driver's meeting for youth drivers and their passengers to review the rules and make sure they are known by both.

Broken glass inside doors is not permitted. Chrome molding strips, side-view mirrors, protruding outside door handles and emblems must be removed. All rear seats must be removed, including third seat and deck plates in station wagons. All air bags and activation charges must be removed. No trash or debris will be permitted inside the car.
3. Drivers door: May be welded shut and re-enforced (inside & out). Only flat plating may be used to reinforce the outside. It cannot exceed 6” past driver’s door vertical seams. It is mandatory that it be reinforced on all compacts. You should also leave the inside driver’s door panel on or replace with padding for drivers safety. If not, all sharp edges must be covered or removed. The same may be done on the passenger door for Youth cars with a passenger only.
4. Drivers Area: Angle iron, square tubing or steel bar can be used to brace the rear of the driver’s seat, door post to door post. You may also use one in place of the dash. Plates on the end of these 2 bars not to exceed 12”x12”. They may be connected by using same across both front doors to form a rectangular safety zone. Door bars cannot extend pass dash and seat bar. Four, straight down kickers may be run from the corners of the safety cage to the floor only. No angling (tilting) of the kickers or attaching to the frame. No roll cages inside car. Bars or pipes used should be no more than 4” outside diameter. Seat brace must be within 4” of the seat back and measured ¾ of the way up. A roll over bar can be welded behind the seat and run straight up (no tilting) and over the roof. Strongly recommended on 4 door cars with no center door post, and cars with weak roofs. If you have a sunroof it must be covered with like sheet metal.
5. Passenger Door's: may be welded all around, outside only. If plating/strapping is used it cannot be more than 3” wide and ¼ thick. No excessive overlapping permitted. Doors that are not welded may be wired or chained, sheet metal to sheet metal only.
6. Frame: You are allowed to weld front top frame seams from firewall forward only. No other frame seam welding is permitted. Pre run cars are allowed up to 4 frame patch repairs and MUST have noticeable damage or rust to justify the repair. Patches cannot exceed ¼” x 4” x 4” in size. Dimples and puckering of fame do not constitute damage. No trailer hitches permitted and must be completely removed. If in doubt, please call an official.
7. Tires: Solids & doubles allowed. No studded tires. No wheel weights. Valve stem protectors are ok. Wheel centers are permitted.
8. Body seam welding: Only allowed to repair rusted areas or previously run damaged cars. Repair with metal no thicker than area being repaired (20 gauge) and patch cannot be any larger than necessary to attach to good metal in all directions. Rusted or damaged area must be obvious and repair necessary or it will not be allowed. No welds inside car except for driver's rectangular safety zone, rust repair or as stated in this rule sheet. OFFICALS HAVE FINAL SAY ON THIS!
9. Hoods: must be open for inspection. They must have a hole above the carburetor at least 4” larger than air cleaner or if stacks are used an 8” hole around each stack is acceptable. Car must have hood unless fan blades are removed. Carburetors must have air cleaners. Hoods may be wired or bolted. If washers are welded to sheet metal to reinforce holes for wires then only 4 places can be used instead of the standard 8 places. ½ of wires may be run to bumper or frame. Each wired location may have a max. of 2 strands of #9 wire Max. per spot. If bolted, no larger than 5/8” in size and in 4 places total. If bolting through core support, the bolts may only travel through the top only of core support and/or firewall or small pieces of angle iron welded to hood and fender edges, angle iron may be 2” x 2”x ¼” x 6” long, MAX. Call or e-mail for any clarification.
10. Factory leaf springs cars must have original number of springs and be of original thickness and length. No homemade from flat stock and main spring must be on top. They may be rebuilt but must have at least a 2” stair-step in length. No extra leafs allowed. Four spring clamps are allowed per side, at least 1 must be in front of axle.
11. Bumper shocks: may be welded, but no extra metal may be added. No home-made shocks, (pipes or tubing) in frame, factory OEM bumper shocks only.
12. Bumper: substitution is allowed as long as it is of comparable size. Outer bumper shell may be welded to inner backing. If there are no access holes to see inside you must cut a 2” hole in each end of the bumper. Bumpers must be at least 12” and no more than 24” from ground to bottom of bumper. You may replace bumpers with pipe or square tubing. It may not be more than 4” in diameter and 5/16” thick. Ends must remain open and cannot be capped shut. It can be bolted or welded directly to bumper shock or end of frame. No extra added metal to sides or bottom but a small 4”x4”- ¼ “ thick piece may be used to secure top. If pipe is used you may use a small amount of metal to help secure the pipe into position and keep it from rolling. OFFICALS HAVE THE FINAL SAY ON OVER USE OF METAL OR NOT. !!!
13. Gas tanks: THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE THERE IS!!!! Stock tanks are NOT allowed. A portable tank or fuel cell must be 100% SECURELY FASTENED behind the front seat to the floor and covered with a non-absorbent material. A metal tray mounted to the floor with the gas tank placed into the tray is highly recommended. Ratchet straps, wire, zip ties, uni-strapping, seat bealts, etc are NOT suitable ways to mount fuel cells, and will not be accepted! Gas tank protectors are allowed; cannot exceed 24” in width & back side of protector cannot be attached to any vertical sheet metal. Gas line connections MUST be secured with clamps (not tape, zip ties, etc).Cars equipped with electric fuel pumps MUST have a kill switch mounted at the base of the driver’s door post at the dash area for easy reach by safety personnel. All fuel lines and fittings should be pressure tested quality and be covered and/or wrapped for driver’s safety.
14. Battery; 1 of any size allowed. Must be mounted inside on the floor board and covered. Mounting to a metal tray and 100% securely fastened to the floor. Use of bungees, zip ties, and plastic tie downs are NOT allowed.
15. Radiators: must remain in the original position or be taken out. Comparable replacement radiators are permitted. Transmission coolers are allowed under the hood or behind the driver’s seat. A fan or ice chest may be used for cooling purposes. If ice is used the container should seal good and not leak. All lines and fittings used should be of pressure tested quality. If not, then all exposed lines and fittings must be covered & secured. Officials have final say on this.
16. Trunks or tailgates: May be wired, chained or welded. No larger than 5/16th chain or max of 2 strands of #9 gauge wire per place. Body metal to body metal only or body metal to bumper in no more than 4 of the 8 places. If washers are welded to sheet metal to reinforce holes for wires or chains then only 4 places can be used instead of the standard 8 places. If welding trunk or tailgate, then 4 plates are allowed – 3” x 6” x ¼“ thick Max size. Sheet metal to sheet metal only. Rear section of vehicle may be creased, tucked or smashed. Officials have the final decision on this.
17. Body: Cutting fenders & ends of bumpers is allowed. Folding or rolling of sheet metal is allowed. You may lightly re-weld this metal or add 4 bolts max. per fender or quarter. Bolts no larger than 9/16 head 3/8ths bolt size with 2” washers Max. You must have a window bar, chain or wire in the windshield area, and a rear window bar is also permitted. Max strapping of 3”wide and ¼” thick to run from roof to firewall no more than 6” past the front of the roof, or 6” below the top of the cowl of firewall. Rear window bar can be same size if strapping, 2” x 2” x ¼” wall max if tubing. Strap or tubing to be welded to trunk, must be within 6” of most rearward part of roof and no more than 6” can be welded to trunk lid, and must be touching front edge of trunk lid within the 6”. Plates used for window bar welding to secure to car can be no bigger than 6” x 6” x ¼” MAX, at each end of the strap or tube. 4 plates Max.
18. Fabricating: Welded solid or chained down engine & transmission mounts are recommended. Slider drive shafts and modified steering columns are allowed. Distributor protectors cannot have any kickers to body, frame or dash bar. DP cannot be any wider than intake manifold and must be at least 4” from dash bar.
19. Suspension: Shock helper springs and coil expanders may be used to help saggy or worn out springs. Not to increase the original height of the car. No homemade trailing arms on rear-end. Homemade or aftermarket reinforced tie-rod ends are allowed. Reinforcement within reason, officials have final say. Rear-end braces are allowed but should be formed to fit against rear end. If not, they cannot extend more than 6" off rear-end and must be shorter than length between frame rails. If in doubt, call or e-mail with a question. Front suspension can be welded but cannot be done in a way to strengthen the frame or body. Top a-arm or top side only if available. 2 - 2”x 4” x ¼” pieces may be used on each side to weld front suspension MAX. Bumper height rule #12 must followed.

2018 Hatfield Build Class Rules
The Driver must be registered and vehicle must be inspected 1 hour prior to start time of show or a $50 late fee will be imposed before your vehicle will be inspected. Inspection will close 15 minutes prior to the drivers meeting and the start of the derby, it is the responsibility of the driver to be there on time. No Exceptions!
GENERAL
1) Any American-made sedan or station wagon, No Imperials. A 14“x 14“roof sign is mandatory. No black cars permitted except for past winners. All other cars may not be painted more than 50% black and must have a contrasting color on the other 50%.
2) Cars must have functioning brakes at all times, on at least one axle. Helmet, seat belt, and eye protection must be worn at all times.
3) Any questions call first! If it doesn’t say you can do it, don’t do it. Cars must be stock unless modifications are stated in rules. All glass, plastic, and interior must be removed before arriving to the event. No trash or debris permitted in cars.
4) Any controversies or protests must be brought up before and/or during the drivers meeting.
5) We have the right to re-inspect, cut, or drill any car at any time. If you are caught breaking the rules set here forth, you will forfeit any and all winnings and or prizes you are due. Judges decisions are final. If you stretch a rule you could lose that rule. You must pass inspection within 3 times through tech or you will not be allowed to run.
6) Any aftermarket parts must be approved by tech, prior to the show. You must call and submit pictures for approval. Parts that are not approved before the derby, could result in disqualification.
7) No painting of the frames or inside of the car is permitted. Cars will not be inspected if this is an issue.
8) Stock gas tanks must be removed from original place and moved inside the car. You must use a fuel cell or boat tank, securely fastened with no leaks and must be installed in a safe manner. Ratchet straps, wire, zip ties, uni-strapping, seat bealts, etc are NOT suitable ways to mount fuel cells, and will not be accepted!
FRAME
1) Trailer hitches and braces must be removed. No plating, pinning, heat treating, or stuffing the frame of any kind. No welds on frame may exceed a single pass. No weave passes or building the weld up will be permitted. All unused bolts must be removed from frame. NO WELDS ON FRAME BIGGER THAN 3/8” PERMITTED. IF THEY ARE BIGGER YOU WILL HAVE TO CUT OR GRIND THEM DOWN TO SIZE.
2) NO FRAME CREASING! NO BEATING DOWN THE TOP, BOTTOM OR SIDES OF FRAME IN ANY WAY
3) You can notch or pre-bend rear frame section. This is to help rear of car roll, not to strengthen the frame. Top Frame seams from the firewall forward may be welded, top side only, with a single bead of weld. No weave passes, excessive welds will have to be removed.
4) On 02 and older cars, the front frame must be 23" from front of coil pockets (on bottom of frame), to the end of the frame. The bumper can’t slide over the frame. If a frame section needs to be replaced or repaired (rust), you must call first. If the frame has damage in the rear, the back 2 body bolts may be moved, no more than 6" from factory location.
5) For coil sprung cars, you may use a hump plate. All coil sprung cars may have ¼" X 6" X 32" hump plate, except 1977 and newer GM, these cars may use a ¼" X 6" X 38" hump plate. All hump plates must cover the entire arch of the frame and extend forward, rearward, or be centered on the hump. All hump plates must be 2” from the rear end housing and/or anything that attaches to it.
6) On leaf spring cars you may use a ¼" X 6" X 11" hump plate to be measured the same way.
7) All hump plates may contour the frame, run straight across, or work as a half-moon on the hump. Hump plate must remain flat plate no bending this over the top or bottom of frame. Hump plate must be on the outside of frame, towards the outside of the car.
8) You can have a ball joint protector, max 2x2 square tube with 2"x2" contact area on the frame. This is to be used as a ball joint protector. DO NOT ABUSE THIS!!!
9) On 03 and newer fords you cannot weld a spring pocket to frame. You can weld in the cradle and the suspension components from 80-02 ford/mercury/Lincoln, with the same configuration that it came with from the factory. You may do this using a single weld bead, no wider than 3/8" wide and no added metal. The cradle and suspension components must be welded within 2" of factory location. Measure this from the crush box bolt holes forward. NO shortening the frame on 2003 & up. NO filling the crush point holes. You can use 1 piece of all thread, with 4 nuts, and 4 washers per side. They can run from your upper A Arm to your lower A Arm. None of these may exceed 4” in diameter, length, width, or thickness. You may use a 4” wide or round spacer from bottom of frame, to lower a-arm, to set your height. A-arm brackets must be factory brackets and must be used and mounted in the same factory manner. If you have questions on this, call. Nothing may be welded between the mounting brackets. If using the 98 – 02 brackets, they must measure the same from inside to inside, as they do on the factory frame no spacing them farther apart will be permitted. You may run a bolt in style cradle with spring pockets (THESE MUST BE APPROVED BEFORE THEY CAN RUN) the cradle must not add any strength to the front frame beyond what the factory 80-02 cradle would in factory configuration. No welding on the frame to cradle at all. They must utilize the factory bolting locations cradle and all suspension components must mount within 2" of factory location.
10) Frame may not be lower than 14" to the ground.
11) You may tilt the frame in 2 spots per side, no metal may be added. All factory holes in frame must remain open, no welding these holes shut permitted. If you clip a car, it will count as 1 of the 2 tilt spots per that side.
12) If a car has frame damage, you must call first to repair it. Frame spacers for the body can be no larger than 3” in diameter and must be 1” tall. These may not weld to frame in any way.
13) You may clip frames on pre-ran cars with a single butt weld, no metal added. Must use same make and model of frame IE: ford to ford, gm to gm. No hybrid frames permitted. 03 and newer to 03 and newer, 1980/2002 to 1980/2002, old iron to old iron, and metric GM to metric GM.
14) You may also use a 4" x 4" x ¼ plate, welded to the top side of frame on the front two body mounts. These can weld no farther than 2" on the frame behind the body mount bolts.
15) No welding washers, Plates, or anything else not specified, over top of the spring pockets.
BUMPERS
1) Homemade front bumpers are permitted. If you choose to manufacture a homemade bumper, it must conform to the following size limits. It can be no larger than 8”x 8”, except the specified middle section. The point must taper over an area of at least 32” wide and cannot exceed 12” wide (front to back) at the tip of the point. The point may only extend out 4” from the flat part of the bumper. If using a factory bumper, it may be loaded or stuffed full.
2) You may use ¼" X 2” X 6” plate to weld from bumper to frame, 2 PER BUMPER MOUNTING LOCATION. Rear bumper shocks must appear stock (Must be round pipe or factory shock no square tubing will be permitted)
3) FRONT BUMPER; You may use a 10”x 2”x 2” bumper shock (square or round) and 4" wide x 3/8" thick strap, extending from your bumper down one side of the frame. On all cars 2002 and older, this plate may be 20” long. You are also allowed to wrap this strap around the front of the frame, 4", to create an "L" shape. This is to give you enough material to weld your bumper to the strap. Plate may be formed but it cannot double at any point. Do not abuse this rule, you will cut it. This strap must be on side of frame not top or bottom.
4) On 03 and newer cars, the 4” x 3/8” thick plate can be 17” from the bumper back towards A-arm.
5) No spacers of any type permitted between the front bumper and the frame, unless specified.
6) Rear bumper must be factory bumper and may not be loaded. You may use a 3”x 10”x ¼” strap, welded from your bumper to the body.
7) Bumpers cannot be lower than 15" or higher than 22" from bottom of bumper to the ground.
8) On pre-ran cars, if the frame is shortened in the rear and the bumper is replaced, the bumper shocks may not be located closer than 6" from hump plate.
9) Front bumper may be hardnosed.
10) You may have a gusset from core support spacer to bumper this must be below core support no bigger than 2” X 2”. Core support spacer must be straight up and down.
SUSPENSION
1) You may modify tie rods or run aftermarket. Valve stem protectors are permitted. A-arms must remain in stock configuration. Any rubber tire permitted. Rear trailing arms may be Home made, no bigger than 2 x 2 square tubing or pipe AND MUST MOUNT TO PACKAGE TRAY, in factory manner (two separate mounting brackets, nothing connected to the humps). Doubling of tires permitted. Bead locks are permitted, no bigger than 21” across.
2) Coil springs in rear may be welded, wired or chained to rear end. No coil to leaf conversions allowed.
3) You may use rear end of choice. Rear end protectors may be used but, may not be used to strengthen car in any way.
4) Leaf spring cars may replace broken springs with factory ¼ “leaf springs only. No more than 7 springs allowed and must have a 2" stagger and mounted in factory location. 6 clamps per side.
5) Sway bar may be welded to bottom of frame in the factory location you may use a 1 ½ " X 4” bracket or a 2" square tubing or pipe to weld to sway bar to attach to frame. Sway bar must be a factory-made car type sway bar. Sway bar ends may be bolted and/or welded to lower A-arms.
6) Upper and lower A-arms must be factory passenger car type, nothing homemade will be permitted.
7) Upper A-arms may be welded down, by folding down the front and rear side of A-arm and welding a 1/4” X 2” wide piece of metal on front and rear side of A-arms. The strapping must not extend more than 2” from A-arm in any place. NO other welding on A-arms will be permitted, unless specified. Do not beat the top side of the Aarm down for any reason. This will be cut completely out or car will not run.
8) Lower A-Arms may not be welded. You can change out the new style A-arms for old style ones. Cars do not have to bounce. Solid suspension is allowed. The A-arm brackets may not be modified in any way and must mount as they did from factory. You may re-weld these with a single 3/8” pass of weld.
9) On 98-02 frames, the cup over spring pockets must remain in factory location, these cannot be removed or modified. These cannot be added to 03 and up frames.
10) No spring spacers permitted on top of coil spring inside of frame.
11) On cars with two separate upper A-arm brackets and a shock tower, you may add a 1” bar or factory wish bone, connecting the two brackets. This must mount between the a-arm brackets and attach only to the brackets and the top half of the coil tower. If this is welded to the frame, you lose it.
BODY
1) You may weld doors, trunk lids, and/or tailgates. Strapping used for welding may not be stair stepped, no excessive overlapping permitted. Strapping may be ¼” x 3" flat stock maximum. Tops of door skins may be smashed together and welded ¼” X 3” flat stock be used
2) No interior body seam welding will be permitted. Doors can be welded on outside of body only. Rust repair is permitted but you must send pictures for prior approval. 1” overlap and factory thickness of metal for repair. Abuse it and modifications may be required.
3) Hoods must be open for inspection. A 12" x 12" hole over air cleaner is mandatory. Cars may not be smashed flat. If cars are tucked the rear quarter panels on both sides of cars must be 6" higher than the top of the bumper. If speaker deck is removed, deck lid can attach to package tray. Deck lid can be mounted no further forward than the coil springs.
4) Must have a 1" gap between body and frame, with a stack of washers or spacer of some kind. These may be no bigger than 3" x 3", NO EXCEPTIONS. 1” body bolt max, must start and stop in factory location. All body mounts must be in stock location.
5) You may have 8 bolts in the hood to keep it secure, bolts may be 1" in dia. The front 2 may go all the way through core support. You may use a ¼” X 2” x 2” spacer through the core support, this may be welded to top of frame and top and bottom of core support only. Spacers may not be lower than top of frame.
6) You may have a front and rear window bar or wire. If using metal, it can be no thicker than 3/8" and no wider than 3". Or, you may use 2 x 2 square or pipe. These may not touch the rollover bar. And must be at least 6” away from gas tank protector. They can be welded to roof, no more than 6" from the window area and welded to deck lid no more than 6" from the rear window area. Metal used for this may not exceed 6" in length on roof or deck lid. If you choose not to run a front window bar to the firewall, you may run a bar, within the same measurements, from the halo, to your dash bar. This can’t attach to the firewall.
7) Deck lids may have two 1" pieces of all thread, connecting the floor pan to the deck lid. They may also attach to frame by welding the all thread to the frame and must be straight up and down. On wagons, these may go through the roof or rear roof pillars from the rear end back.
8) Two 8" X 8" inspection holes must be put in all deck lids, one on each side of deck lid, within 2" of trunk strapping (must be able to see body mounts behind the wheels). Trunk lids must be factory make and model of car IE: GM to GM, ford to ford, no pre- 1980 deck lids permitted on 80 and newer cars.
9) You can add a piece of angle, 4" x 4" x ¼"max., to top of the core support. This can be No longer than 32". No other metal permitted to be welded to core support, unless specified.
10) Body bolt washers may be no bigger than 3” and cannot be welded to body in any way.
11) You may plate all 4 doors with steel no thicker than 1/8”, from door seam to door seam. This is for added safety to drivers. Doors may be plated on inside or outside only, not both. Drivers door only may be reinforced any way preferred.
12) You may add 3 bolts per wheel well opening. Sheet metal only.
CAGE
1) No cage components may be larger than 6”, no stacking to make 12”. Gas tank protector 32” wide, outside to outside. You may use gussets to make this safe inside, but safe to get out as well.
2) The cage may have 4 down legs and must be mounted between body mount in front of rear wheels and the dash bar, they must be straight up and down. Cage must be at least 4” above transmission tunnel.
3) Cage of your design and gas tank protector may extend from sheet metal in front of package tray to firewall. On non-package tray cars, the cage may extend from the center of rear end to firewall. The sheet metal may not be removed behind gas tank protector. The rear seat bar can be mounted no farther back than where the kick panel meets the bench seat.
4) You can have 2”x 2”, pipe or tube, kickers from the front dash bar to the top side of frame, behind A-arms. No other material may be used, they may but up against A-arm and start no farther back than 2" off A-arm. The kickers must be located behind A-arm bracket on 98 – 02 or behind A-arm on all other models, closest to firewall of car.
Engines
1) Engines may be chained in with 1 chain PER SIDE, standard 3/8" chain max. These chains may be no longer than 16" and no more than 2 chain links may be welded to the engine cradle. NO CHAINS PERMITTED TO WELD TO FRAME RAILS IN ANY WAY.
2) Motor of choice is permitted. Distributor protectors are allowed. Nothing that attaches to engine can be wider than the headers.
3) Transmission protectors are allowed. They may not have extra/extended bracing to the cross member, frame, or any part of the cage components, other than the factory mounting location. Trans blanket is recommended. OEM transmission cross member or 2”x 2” x 1/4” max replacement, straight across. Must be mounted with a ½” space from all transmission protector components, including shifter plate and cross member. Skid plates are allowed. They may be one piece from engine to transmission. They may not extend past oil pan or transmission pan and/or connect to transmission cross member. NO bolting or welding the skid plate to the frame.
4) Transmissions must be of passenger car origin. Transmission coolers may be used, but they must be secured in such a way to prevent injury. Metal or braided lines must be used. No fuel or low-pressure lines may be used.
5) Coolers may be secured in a container in the passenger compartment of the car.
6) Angles for cross member can't be longer than 5", CROSS MEMBER MUST RUN STRAIGHT ACROSS CAR AND MOUNT IN FACTORY LOCATION ON TRANSMISSION.
7) No water coolers permitted or overflow bottles permitted, must be factory car radiator or an OEM replacement only.
8) Engine may be welded solid to the top side of the frames engine cradle, no added metal. Nothing that mounts to engine or engine cradle will be permitted to be welded to frame rails. They must attach only to engine cradle, not frame rails. If using mounts, nothing bigger than 7” X 7” landing pad welded to the cradle. If using bar style, nothing bigger than 9”.
10) Radiator protectors permitted. They must mount same way as factory radiator, bolted in, not welded. You may use 1/8” expanded metal on the core support, in front of radiator. It may be bolted in 4 spots or welded in 4 spots with 1” welds. You must use an OEM core support, no homemade ones will be permitted. Fan shrouds are permitted. They may not act as a kicker in any way or extend more than 2” in front of fan and cannot attach to anything except engine cradle.

FIX-IT-PLATES
1. Fix-it-plates will be allowed on pre-ran vehicles ONLY. Must have visible and significant damage. (A small dimple or bubble does NOT warrant a fix-it-plate. This is for significant damage only). If plate is not constituted, you will remove the plate to run.
2. May have (2) fix-it-plates per side. Only (1) fix it plate may be positioned in front of the a-arms on each frame rail. Plates to be no larger than 4”x4”x1/4”Max.
3. Each fix it plate will be measured to verify size requirements. Any plate in excess of 4x4-in. will be trimmed to size.

Kids Power Wheels:
Stock with no alterations to wheels, axles, steering etc.
No low riding cars like Indy style, trans-am etc.
Battery may be replaced with 12-volt lawn mower battery and covered for safety.
Doors and hoods must be strapped, bolted, wired or duck taped shut.
Helmet is required.
Seat belt is optional.
Ages 4-8 only at this time.
Call or email if in doubt.
Entry fee of $5 will be used to purchase event t-shirts and trophies for all drivers.
Entries are limited to the first 20 kids.

What’s payout for kicker cars Currently we have a 7G purse. Payouts per class will be reflected on car counts.

I have always felt that basing the payout on car count is bullshit. Why should we be punished for bringing a car if no one else does? Very respectable that you kept the payout for the bonestock class at Richland County, but if you had adjusted it according to "car count", two of your participants would have loaded up and gone home. Kind of shitty to take money away from those guys that support your show because the number of cars in their heat is low. Just an opinion spoken from someone that has supported your shows every year since 2011.

I always appreciate feedback Sir. The overall purse wont change, I doubt the class moneys will change either. But when I'm working on trying to gain some sponsorship money to add to classes or mad dogs or what have you, unless its specifically stated from the donor you cant really justify adding extra money to a class with a couple cars. So yes, the quick answer is it will depend on car count, so whether I can or cant add to the purse, it changes that answer.
