ive read pretty much everything bout explorers on here which isnt much so does anyone have any tips for them . i have a 99 w a 4.0 in it.

That is pretty much like running a ford ranger without the box. You just have a big steel enclosed chassis. Frame is pretty much identical and so is the suspension under them. Explorers are tough a lot of them run around me in WI. Ive never personally ran an explorer but experience working on them. The rear ends are not very strong and do not take abuse well. My wife tore the rear end out of hers by not stopping completely before switching from reverse to drive. Other than that they are pretty solid. The wife roller her first explorer and except for the roof damage she still ran and drove perfectly fine with no issues. I told her I wanted to demo it or save parts from it but she just wanted to scrape the thing. So we scraped it bought another one and then she tore the rear end out of the second one and the T-case for the 4-wheel drive fused together locking it into 4-wheel all the time. Told her we should taken parts out of it. Anywho a bit of topic. Frames on these are fairly decent with very little work Ive never seen one bend but you also need to protect your front end because the steering breaks easily that how I took one of these out with a mini van last year. Is there anything super specific you are looking for?

Is there anything super specific you are looking for? I have never ran an explorer but have ran a couple of rangers to a couple different rule sets. The rear sucks at least as bad as an s10 if its not sucked down tight and low, it will belly right behind the front spring hangers. The ball joints are almost glass, so keep them protected. Otherwise it takes very little work to make the front stout, again depending on rules.

Also the frame on an explorer is a bit different than a ranger but pretty much the same i have never seen an explorer belly yet in 10 years. Being that the explorer does not have a box if the bolts that go from body to frame are in good shape or changed it should not belly because of the single piece body. The ranger will belly because of the box gap. Have the single piece body adds alot of strength to the explorer. As i said i have yet to see one belly.

Nothing has bent but sheet metal.Hard nose the front with a good bumper, put a decent bumper on rear to keep the rails from twisting weird, but make it angle up due to the rear part of the frame bending down. The 8.8 is a great rear end weld it solid with some good gears. We have only bent 2 axles in all the derbys its been in. Clamp the rear springs, chain the rear. Lift the front as high as you can, Bolt the ball joints with the biggest bolt you can (I run 1") bolt all steering components. The steering box itself is the week point we have broken 2 internally. On my ranger I put a f-150s box on and it is a lot tougher. Dont think it will work on a exploder but im looking for an expedition to see if it will solve that. Weld and patch every exterior seam. Replace body pucks with washers and suck it down tight. All thread through the core support. We only drive forward and have yet to have any frame damage. Put the biggest cage your rules will allow with halo. I have yet to see a exploder belly like a ranger.JMO

thank u sir that answers alot. minecdont have steering box its got the rack and is there any certain wiring issues i should watch im not pulling dash and it seems the theft light is flashing but it still starts

All I can say is try and move any important electronics inside or out of the way if running stock motor and trans.

They tend to bend where they hump down in the front of the back axle if you run a stock class. Mind you this was after 6 hard runs.

ive looked at that strommi wish i could c pics and derbydan did u run back bumper on that ive read run back bumper and dont need it.im running stock motor and trans so hope it holds up.im running it in a month so got alittle time but also need to get my lumina ready also lol
