I usually torch a hole on inside shock, and oil will either burn out or dump out (anyone trying this always be careful of the first cut you do, it will come back at you), or drill said hole. Then pound them in with a mall against a hard surface, sometimes they are a pain but they will compress.
That being said, its been a while as I have been extending them for length.

There is a nut on the back of shock torch that out to about 3/8" hole and hammer away, there is a rod that needs to pass through the rear of shock. Will go back easy then

They have a tendency to rust to the inner tube also.....I've thrown a few sets away that I couldn't get apart no matter what I tried.

Shocks tore because they were rusty and I ended up cutting them back almost even with the frame to take care of the issue.

Im guessing he is refering to making homemade (stock appearing) shocks with stock shock parts. Use the two ends the middle ring and some thich pipe the same size as the origional shock. I used half a shock the end and a piece of pipe to make my shock longer and much stronger before.

I get what your saying now, thanks.
Would it make any sence to make them a little bit longer? or would that give more leverage to nose the front end?

I thought that's why we all ram Mopar an ford I beam shocks was to run the longest shocks out there. If you collapse them you might as well use GM shocks.
