Looking at building my first crown. It's for a stock style build.
Stock engine and really no welding really allowed.
Can swap out the rear end with any other Ford passenger car rear end for this style of Ford. It a bubble Ford.
Question is what's the biggest axel size for these cars?

per the way the rules are worded your stuck with the 8.8, if it said any passenger car rear you could of swapped it out for a 9"

On the topic of rear ends, heard that a 10 bolt rear is a direct fit for a box vic?? if so what years or what models do I need to look for? thanks for any help.

71-96 full size gm cars are the rearends that bolt right in but the best ones are 71-76.

X2 on the stock axle. Maybe weld the tubes to the housing and gut the e-brake, then run smaller rubber. Keep your foot out of the throttle during axle shots. You'll be fine. I ran a weld car in 7 shows with the stock rear in the above manner and took home 3 trophies and 2 mad dogs, that axle was still perfect when I sold the car

I've run stock 8.8 rears many times-even with double tires, only broke one axle with a rear hard shot to the wheel. The bubble one are good because there disc brake, gut the park brakes and welded up the gears, you'll be good to go.Even if you break an axle the caliper will hold it in.

Just about any interference with the rotation of these axles will produce a distinct "Tink" Sound....Protect Your rear and let out when they come calling!

In a 91-98 crown vic or Lincoln town car 91-97 yes 98 and newer no. Shock mounting studs may be different on the rear compared to the stock vic rear but other than that, yes it will bolt in.

Ok , just wanted to clarify . I know in past replays to the topic it's always 71-76 GM rears bolt right in . Just wasn't sure if 1 year early on production would matter
