I think it was fine to die. Nobody listens anyway. to all the facts you gave right ^^^^ I certainly wouldn't expect Scott Gropp to share any secrets about how he builds his engines. I don't know the guy and have never spoken to him, but I'm sure that he does know his stuff when it comes to derby engines. Revisiting the piston squirter topic- he said he doesn't put them in his engines, so maybe he could explain to us why he feels they're unnecessary. I've already said that I had an engine with them and it is still running after some serious abuse, but maybe they didn't make a difference. That's basically all the testing I can do, as I only build a new engine every couple years. How many of us can really build, run,and disassemble numerous engines to test our theories?

Ron17t: what design was your squirters system? I was looking at two different types. One was like what nascar runs that taps oil pressure from the oil pump and plumbs it with lines to individual squirters. The other used oil out of the main bearings that was routed by drilling bore holes in the block and then through screwed in squirters. Just curious.

Even with basic car builds most derby guys won't/don't give away their best stuff. when someone see's something a little different with my build and ask "why did ya do that?"... quite often my answer will be "What do you mean?, just trying something different... just cause... no real reason... or as Stromi says "IDK"... I like to give hints to help out my competition however I'm not about to hand over a build sheet and say IMO, here is the best possible build you can make, as well as the reasoning behind each modification. I say stuff to new guys like: "you ever think of clamping them leaf springs?" or "too bad you don't have a better bumper to run on that 67 fury..." or remember how that olds you ran 2 years ago folded down?, do you think it would be worth it to notch the frame rails this time?.... "I know those big 31 inch tires look tough on the back end, but".... I'm all about dropping hints to offer direction but unless I'm talking to a close friend or car builder, I never give the game away. Should they take the bait and ask more questions I can usually be suckered into giving more advise but if they don't take the bait its no skin off my back. When Gropp says "don't need em, money would be better spent in other areas"..... take it as a hint to bump you in the right direction. don't start getting your panties all in a bunch just cause he wont send you dyno results in order to disprove what your "buddy" toldja. Maybe, just maybe Scott is actually offering sound advice when he says: "don't need em, money would be better spent in other areas".....

There's an engine in my shop right now that was built by a pretty big name builder that has squirters shooting towards the bottom of the pistons and the cam lobes.... That engine knocked all 5 cam bearings out of it and even spun the front one when it got hot....I'm having to build the guy a completely new engine now.... And it won't be getting oil squirters....

Any thoughts as to why? Possibly a pump with not enough pressure/volume to keep up with the extra oil being redirected in the bottom end?

I think it was fine to die. Nobody listens anyway. to all the facts you gave right You must be dumb and dumber rolled into one. If you look at my posts, they give you a clear path to knowledge. The information you need to find out for yourself is in there. Just think, in the 23 days since I gifted you with the post, you could have found a block, mocked it up for experiments, prepped it for squirters, and started testing with various oil weights, and temperatures. But instead, you sit on your a$$ and ask people in a thread with a poll what crank to use. I don't have to give you anything, you lazy, entitlement doused twit. Instead of posting about cranks, which you clearly don't even understand the various types, read about metals and then call the manufacturers and ask them questions. Then go out and buy two of each of the ones you want, and put then measure all of the starting clearances, and measure them on several axis on each journal. Throw them in the oven for a while and re-measure. See what they do. He!!, you're too stupid and lazy to even do that, I bet. I gave you the chance to learn and shut up. I even said the thread could die. Now you want to piss with me, so go for it. Let's see all your success. Yeah, I know, you don't have any. Bring on some more! All day every day I'll run circles around you, and the best part is, I now know that you are so lazy you'll never even be able to come up with an intelligent answer. Three shots I gave you to check yourself. In the old days, punks only needed one shot. Society has really gone downhill. Now go post a new thread with a poll in it about how many connecting rods you need in a SBC because you probably can't figure that out either. Or shut up, get off your a$$, and go experiment and learn something.

Well if we all made your wage I could probably do that kind of stuff buy 6 cams and buy 4 cranks and 3 different types of pistons and 5 diffrent types of bearings sorry I live in what you called middle to lower class, we cant do that kind of stuff.

I didn't make squat when I started doing research. Quit making excuses. Get off your butt and work! I was building and testing with student loan money while still in school in the 90's. Going to derbies with my dad's old Chevy truck and a borrowed flatbed. Worked late into the night to learn. Have a divorce to show for it. Busted my butt and became educated about winning. I can only expect more excuses from you.

How long do you bake the crank in the oven for 5-10 minutes at 350? Turkey baster and smother it in different weight oil? Is there an all done button that pops when it's done? I'm totally kidding btw.....

Ive heard of people wrapping their cam in aluminum foil basted with 30 weight and baking it at 300 to help brake it in. IDK?
